Q: Will it hold the hem together while I hand hem it? Do you just press down to get it to stick or is it an iron on?

It is like a very thin double sided tape. I have used it to make hemming much easier. Especially if it is a thin hem where it's harder to hold or pin. No ironing necessary, just cut the amount you need place it on the fabric then peel the paper off the other side and press the fabric together.

Q: Can this be used as a temporary hemming tool for a jersey dress? Will it hold for one night of trick or treating with my friends?

I was not a fan of this. It didn't hold at all (I was working on a basic jersey dress). Stitch Witchery is a good brand I used before that worked great.

Q: can you use this for hemming sheer curtains on permanent basis without sewing?

The hold will not be strong enough. I would use fabric tape for what you want.

Q: What would happen if I leave the tape and not wash? Will the adhesive bleed through the fabric?

I have used this tape to help install invisible zips in a wide variety of fabrics, including Duchess satin, sateen and duck. It has not left any residue yet. I also used it to hold on buttons before sewing them on the seeing machine.
