Q: I used to play with a Rico 2.5, should I get the 2.0 soft or 2.0 medium?

2.0 Medium for me. Very close( slightly harder) to a Rico 2.5. You can always shave a little off depending on your mouthpiece. I love these reeds. Have. Been playing 40+ years. Best reeds I have ever played.

Q: How does this compare to LaVoz reeds? I use medium soft in those.

Hello, I'm sorry but I can't include an opinion of LaVoz reeds, I've never try them. But if you like a metallic, high pitch sound, these are definitely not the reeds you are looking for. These reeds give you a complete sound, away from the high pitch harmonics. They are easy to control reaching the higher andlower notes easily (depending on your mouthpiece). If this description fits your expectation I would definitely give them a try.

Q: Difference between filed and unfiled?

Filled has procedure in the reed and unfiled dont. I like more unfiled

These reeds come in a pack or 10. To be more accurate about the size a 2 medium is about a 2 and one half regular rico. A 2 hard is closer to a size 3 rico.
