Awesome for the price
This thing is the best synth I’ve played for the price point. A moog for u see $300, def worth it. The envelope folding is awesome. Great little unit to add to a rack or a desktop

Amazing sounds for the price
This thing looks kind of bland at first but I have made some really great sounds on this. For the price it’s definitely worth it. I wouldn’t want it as my only synth because it doesn’t have a sequencer and its not very fun to play using the keys on the face so its not really a starter synth in my opinion. But i use it in a eurorack with other modules. Thats where it really shines. For $300 you get a VCO, an attenuator, a wavefolder, an ADSR, a cutoff, and mults… since this is modular you can use all that on whatever other sources you want. The inclusion of a wavefolder is great. A wavefolder alone is going to be $150.Basically, although its not a good starting synth, its a great first piece to get a eurorack going because you have all the basic necessities and that frees you up to get whatever other modules you want without worrying you missed something. The one downside of the Mavis is that it does take up a lot of HP in the Rack.

Great synth for more than just beginners
For starters, this is essentially an upgraded Werkstatt. It has more control, more utilities, and better packaging (chassis, knobs and ports are much higher quality). The assembly is straightforward but what is very nice is how easily this slots into your existing eurorack. There are valid criticisms, like why the patch bay is where it is, and whether having a built in keyboard was justified. But in fact, the built in keyboard has come in handy on my rack multiple times as I can do very fast tests without having to change anything. For me, its purpose is essentially as a test article, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t sound really good in its own right. For 2.5 Benjamin’s, I’d say it’s worth it for anyone from beginner to experienced. I wouldn’t pay a dollar more though.

Quite impractical as standalone but great as eurorack voice
Nice features, great moogy filter and oscillator, the fact that there's only one really limits your options for making big detailed sounds BUT it's a great addition for my Grandmother. The few issues I have:- No power switch- No 1/4 inch output- For some reason when I connect it to the GM's mixer the output sound is really low compared to GM oscillators, I have to lower all other oscillators and boost the entire output signal, resulting in some distortion and more noise.

un-tunable
no matter what, the keys dont track in a musical way, just good for beeps and boops not necessarily tonal music

It's a kit.
You have to put it together yourself. I did not know that. I should have read the description. Unfortunately, I sent it back because I am not in the electronics assembly business. If something has an affordable price tag and says "Moog",,,then it's probably too good to be true.
