The O-ring does NOT open at all.

Q: Greetings what's the amount of lbs does one holds?

To be completely honest, I do not know the rated load capacity. If it helps I use it to guy out a telescopic mast for my antenna in amateur radio. I use 3 of them each under a 25lb or less load, and have not had a failure yet. Hope that helps.
