Q: Are these small enough to be a choking hazard?

Impossible to be a chocking hazard they are too big for a baby or a little kit, only a horse or alligator can get chocked with this wood blocks

Q: Would the paint rub off from the blocks since it's water-based? Or is there like a clear coat of varnish over the wood pieces?

The pieces have a protectant on them. I just washed one of the red pieces to make sure the paint doesn't come off. When I dried it, there was no paint on the paper towel. The colors are vibrant , the pieces are smooth and do not splinter. This is a well made construction set.

I have washed the blocks and they did not soak up water.

Love the old school toys!

These blocks bring back memories from my childhood. I love the old school toys. I got these as a birthday present for the 3 year old little boy that lives next door. He loved them. His mom texted me the other day to say that he'd played with these blocks more than any other toy he got. Who would've guessed?!? The quality is very nice and they're made from solid wood. They come with a handy storage bag, so you don't have blocks everywhere. They're well sanded with rounded edges and only water-based paint materials that are BPA and phthalates free are used on them. The safety of toys that kids are going to potentially put in their mouths is of the utmost priority and these blocks meet those standards. I'm extremely happy with the high quality of this product and will definitely keep these in mind next time I need to buy a little kids birthday present.

SMALL but perfect otherwise

The coating is nice and the colors are great but they are tiny.In this pic I have all the large pieces because I had to put the smaller ones away so my 9 Month old didn't choke. He put one of the smaller ones all the way in is mouth, it probably wouldn't have gone down his throat but way too small for comfort

I gave this set to two children 2 and 4 years old.Both moms told me how fun it is to play with and the kids like it too. Lol
