Awesome Physics Experiments for Kids: 40 Fun Science Projects and Why They Work (Awesome Steam Activities for Kids) : Colón, Erica L: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Easy inexpensive kids’ science - My 8 year old grandson and I love this series Awesome Experiments which keep us happy and busy for hours, using mostly cardboard, straws, pipe cleaners etc. totally recommend the whole series Review: ~~Could have used some more illustrative pictures but otherwise a great selection ~~ - Eight chapters of this ten chapter book are dedicated to physics experiments: Force * Buoyancy and Flight * Solids and Liquids * Electricity * Magnetism * Light * Heat * Sound Written for 10-13 year olds, there are some experiments that require adult help. These are marked by an "!" at the beginning of the experiment. If you see the 'sun' symbol that means the experiment needs to be conducted outside. If you see a 'splat' that lets you know that the experiment could be messy! Many measurements are in metric. Why? Metric measurements are easier to convert and also universally accepted all over the world. This book is written to kids so easy for them to understand. Written more like a recipe book each experiment consists of: Level of Difficulty * Time Suggestion * Materials * Steps * Now Try This! * Hows and Whys What don't I like? Not all the experiments have pictures/diagrams/photos accompanying them so whilst well-written I don't believe the book is as appealing as it could be. For example, our nine year old who is admittedly a year younger than the recommended age but LOVES science, took a glance through it and then put it down. He's a visual kid and reads some of his other science books a lot! The author creates science curriculum so kind of surprised at how wordy this book comes over. It could have been SO much better and more appealing to kids. A well done glossary at the end of the book is followed by measurement conversion charts, resources, blank table and graph pages along with the index. There are a GREAT variety of experiments included and I wrestled on whether to award 3 or 4 stars. I ended up going with 4 stars as, apart from the lack of pictures, it is well-written and we will still put it to good use in our home despite the initial reaction. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. That has not influenced my review with the thoughts and opinions above being my own. Thanks, Liz

Great ideas
Full of great little experiments

🔬 For The Investigator (Fluid Reasoning) This book is packed with physics experiments that explain the why, not just the steps. It’s perfect for curious learners who love asking questions, spotting patterns, and understanding cause and effect. Each activity invites problem-solving and discovery, making it ideal for logic-driven minds. 🧩 Also great for The Architect (Visual-Spatial) With clear diagrams, simple materials, and visual instructions, this book supports learners who process information best through imagery and hands-on exploration. It taps into spatial reasoning and creativity, offering an engaging way to “see” how science works. Whether you're building a balloon rocket or testing gravity with marbles, these experiments encourage critical thinking, independent learning, and scientific confidence—right at home. — #1 Maryland Homeschool Oversight Program

Interesting book for adults and kids to learn physics! And not have your mind melt.

I bought this so my neices (3&5) and I can have structured quality time when I come over. I keep the book with me so it is our special activity. I pick out and prepare 1-2 activities prior to visiting. The 5 year old loves it so much she told me that when she grows up she wants to write science books for kids too! She isn't ready for all of the activities yet, but I'm excited because this book will last us years! This series is different and brilliant because how they challenge thinking, creativity, and learning. It isn't about just doing steps 1-x. It helps them learn why and think through what would happen if we incorporated x or y variables and form hypotheses. I highly recommend all in this series (I have outdoor, physics, and engineering) The 3 yr old enjoys "helping" her sister by handing her supplies lol.
