WD 2TB My Passport Ultra for Mac, Portable HDD USB-C ready with software for device management, backup and password protection - Silver

I use this portable hard drive as my Time Machine, and it does a good job. There is a slight lag, perhaps about a second when browsing through folders using the Time Machine software, but it does the job it is designed to do and has never failed me. When restoring a file, the action is instant. I am happy with that. It has a small footprint on my desk, and the silver colour looks good sitting underneath my Mac. It has a silent operation; I never hear a murmur from it and have to check periodically if it is still working, which it always is. The WD app comes with utilities, security settings and a My Cloud Home, enabling you to access files remotely. Definitely a handy bundle in addition to just using this as an external hard drive or a Time Machine. Full marks out of 10 for me.

I used this HD to back-up all the files from a video camera after a film shoot. The transfer was reasonably fast given the huge size of the files and the drive has been very reliable so far. Having a usb-c port made a big difference in terms of connectivity compared do to ordinary USB 3 HD. I think it justifies the extra cost for the equivalent USB3 model.

2Tb drive, used with Macbook M1 with 256Mb internal storage. Comes with USB-C to USB-C connecting cable with an adapter to connect to standard USB port. Nice size. Lightweight and easily carried in a sleeve or case, with a Macbook. I have this unit formatted into two x 1TB drives. One for Time Machine backups, the other as external storage, which is quickly necessary on a laptop with only 256Mb of internal storage. Set-up as a Time Machine drive was straight forward, as was formatting and partitioning the drive, after looking online for instructions first! So, why only 4 Stars? There are two reasons, the first of which is quite minor but irritating. As can be seen, the case colour doesn't match the Macbook colour. Secondly, and most importantly, the drive comes loaded with bloatware from Western Digital. A 2Tb drive is down to around 1.8Tb out-of-the-box with the excessive amount of unnecessary software that Western Digital try forcing on people. Personally, I paid for storage, not second-rate software. Luckily, a quick format gets rid of the unwanted software.

Nice storage device, easy to use. Good value for amount of space

Bought for use with Time Machine back-ups on my Mac, plugged in and tucked away behind the Mac. No issues so far, small compact unit, easy to tuck away out of sight and leave to do the job of holding back-ups for the computer. I've attached a pic of the unit to show size in relation to keyboard and trackpad. It's normally tucked away out of site at the back.

Although I found this item a little pricey. I paid for a quality product that ensures by back ups are safe. This does this perfectly. Everything worked exactly as it should, Zero issues and works within set parameters. I recommend this item as ‘Very Fit for Purpose.’

Nice and small easy to use plug and play

Update: I am in the process of returning this product. After short usage an error message appeared stating it could not back up my Mac and was now read only, the message said I would have to reformat the disc which would mean I would lose all my backed up files!!! I’m currently in the process of transferring the files to another hard drive then will send it back. For me, this unit is not a viable option, unreliable and scary knowing you could lose all your data. It’s actually hot to touch Now when in use during the file transfer. I haven’t used tech support so I can’t comment on this so I gave 3 stars. Very easy to use but expensive, it’s very small, light and compact, it has a feeling of being a little cheap, maybe due to the alloy cover and light weight.

Dopo anni di onorato servizio ho dovuto sostituire un analogo hard disk western Digital, in quanto il settore del disco era non leggibile/danneggiato. Hard disk compatto, di nuova generazione, bello da vedere, leggero e sottile. Buone performance riguardo il trasferimento dei dati grazie alla porta usb c (presente adattore usb 3.0). Si può anche utilizzare con windows 10 scaricando appositi driver o riformattando l'unità. Consigliato l'acquisto anche per la garanzia di affidabilità del marchio. Spedizione Amazon Prime velocissima con consegna in locker, in alcuni casi si spreca meno tempo che andare in un negozio fisico tradizionale.

jag har haft många wd diskar och det här är första gången jag fått problem. Det kanske är ett enfångsfel men usb kabeln fungerar ej och kontakterna känns tveksamma. Amazon löste det smidigt
