Quality Euro from a master
Carpe Diem is one of the best games from one of the best designers in "hobby gaming", Stefan Feld. They aren't kid's games but CD is accessible and plays in an hour after you've played a game or two. I rank it in the top four or five of my 100+ game collection for 2, 3 or 4 players. I usually play 2, with my wife. This isn't a heavy game by "Euro" standards but if you like it, it will present near infinite "replayability", it's just as good after 30 plays as it was on the first. There's a bit of interaction in the tile selection and goal selection and there are many paths to victory for players to investigate. CD is not a deeply themed game, it's a player's game and I love it. Issues: there are shades of green to differentiate so it's best played at a well lit table. The set-up and take-down will take a couple minutes, too. CD featured a lot of inch square tiles to sort, either before or after the game. No big deal but it does take a couple minutes to set up and a game to two to really "catch on" to the flow and strategies. It's worth it.

Great Stefan Feld game
This is a thinky game with alot of choices and and interesting scoring mechanism. Youre building various sites, collecting goods and coins to put towards the end of each round. If you choose poorly, then your round wont be fruitful. The games graphics are dull and drab, which is actually the type I prefer. Gives the old world feel. However I had to return the newest version and replace it with this one because the colors were so similar that we were making alot of mistakes with the buildings. The older version is much clearer and easier to differentiate the tiles. 100% recommend this game.

Amazing game!
Love this game! It was intimidating at first with all the pieces, etc., but it's not particularly difficult and really fun. You will want to buy some containers for the pieces, though, as there are no dividers or bags in the box once you punch everything out. Everything else about this game is marvelous! A hidden gem! High quality pieces too!

What a great game for a Euro-style point salad style game.
If you don't like Euro games skip the review. If you don't like multiple ways to get points in the good old fashioned point salad game, don't get this. If you want a game that has many avenues to win, little ways to get the other players with out being aggressive, such as getting a tile someone else wants, is about as take that as you get. Only downside is the art is not what new art someone may want. Has the old flavor Stefan Feld is known for. May win the Spiel this year as a reward for his Castles of Burgundy, but that may go to Wingspan. Have to wait and see. We got the first edition with the star on it as the re-prints change the way the tiles are taken and wife liked feeling like she was walking paths to get what she wanted. Also I'd read a slight change to the rules but not sure about that. Overall a game we have played several times already and have had different outcomes each time to win. If you can get it for under $35 think about it. You'll probably find it used at your FLGS not far in the future. Great Euro-style game.

A Game we've really been enjoying
Looking for a fun medium weight game, this really hit the spot. A nice step up from something like Azul. Slightly more rules overhead to explain up front but once you get going it's loaded with crunchy decisions, without being overbearing and too analysis paralysis inducing. Lots of different avenues to score points so you can remain flexible with your strategy, with a nice dose of interactivity as you have to pay close attention to the actions of other players. Really like the hidden point totals, which make for a fun reveal at the end when the final scores come out.

Ugly board, bubble gameplay
The game has so many ways to get points. Is it possible to form a strategy? It plays smoothly. Yet,I feel that it quite scrambled and we players just go around with a jumble of stuff to do , not a purpose, nor a Roman. So the game fails also in theme. The board is ugly. There are maybe 5 shades of brown. The drawings of chickens and veggies are just flecks. The key around the frames is teenie tiny. The two greens cannot be discerned without thought. The board and components are not modern and enhancing the gameplay like Viticulture or Gugong.

Un gioco german veramente bello, sa essere leggero e profondo al medesimo tempo. Nulla si lascia al caso ma bisogna pianificare ogni mossa con lauto anticipo. Consigliato.

Despite the pictures, this is the 2nd Edition without the lines in the centre of the board. There are rule booklets in English, French and German, and the game itself is completely language-independent. I find the art and graphics preferable to the current (3rd) Edition, but you'll have to be the judge! This is a tile-laying abstract games. It's one of Feld's simplest but, true to form, has astounding depth in such a simple set of rules. The variable layout of the scoring cards means that every game is a unique puzzle.

This is a wonderful and relatively fast game, and pretty straightforward. It is somewhat like Carcassonne in the way that you have to place tiles. It is also good for two players. Overall this a great game and my family loves it very much.
