The end is pretty beefy which fits just fine in my larger gas assist valve opening. I can see if a smaller pen sized gas opening is used how this will not fit in there - be mindful of that. Otherwise, the metal has some heft and is a proper key for opening and closing the valve. Style options are a bonus and the Satin Nickel variant I chose is the perfect match for our purposes.

We recently moved and the first time we tried to use our new had fireplace the key broke and we had to call the gas company to come out and turn it back off.
