Career-spanning collection of all of Tom Petty's hits with The Heartbreakers, his solo work and Mudcrutch. The 38-track set also features two previously-unreleased tracks: the poignant and autobiographical 'For Real' and the collection's lead single - an alternate version of the title track, which restores a never-heard second verse to the song that was originally recorded for the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' 1985 album, 'Southern Accents'. The collection also features an essay on Tom Petty written especially for this collection by Academy Award-winning screenwriter, director, author and journalist Cameron Crowe. All 38 recordings have been re-mastered for this collection from pristine transfers of the original studio masters. Review: Tom Petty the Best of Everything - great item, excellent price, quick delivery, brings back memories of a quality group lwd by a great artist. Review: The Best of Everything - it certainly is - I have to admit I had not listened to Tom Petty until someone introduced me to the Travelling Wilburys, Then I saw him singing While my Guitar Gently Weeps at the 2004 tribute to George Harrison, along with Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood, Dhani Harrison and Prince. I have reached the age when you return to the music you liked as a teenager, in the 60s in my case, and on into the 70s. Ultimately, I love rock music and bands with good guitarists. And a bit of blues. This collection of songs on 2 CDs are magic, from Free Falling at the start, all the way through. I can see from listening to some of these tracks his influence on the Travelling Wilburys album.

A Classic set of Tom Petty at his Best
Having listened to Tom Petty in the 70/80's I had long since moved on, with a lot of his later work work not coming to my attention. Yes, the UK singles were good, but they came across as "singles" and I never really followed Tom's albums. That all changed when a friend introduced me to this album, and after purchase I found myself playing the more obscure tracks in preference to the well known singles, and have now moved on to buy many of his later works. If you like Tom Petty's music at all, you cannot go wrong with this album as an accessible tribute to his life.

The Best of Everything? Very close...
Let me start this review by saying this was a much-anticipated item for me. I love Tom, always have, and own most of his albums on CD or vinyl. Only about five new tracks existed on this CD set, that I didn't have before (Not counting the new alternate 'The Best of Everything' and 'For Real'), but I still really wanted it. It looked nice, professional, and the track listing was pretty solid. Now, let it be known this isn't the only 'Greatest Hits' of Tom Petty. As I believe, there was a single CD 'Greatest Hits' years ago, with the song 'Mary Jane's Last Dance', as well as a 2CD 'Anthology: Through the Years', both of which you can buy quite cheap. So why release another one? Especially so soon after last year's seminal 'An American Treasure'. Money, I suppose. And people will buy it, even if they have everything else, because of the two 'new' tracks. Simple as that. But, putting aside how Tom himself despised Greatest Hits, let's see. It mostly hits the mark, this. The 2CD version, at least, is packaged nicely, in a tri-fold digipack, with great pictures of Tom and his albums (both solo and with the Heartbreakers, as well as Mudcrutch) inside, and a nice booklet with an essay and such. if you're looking for Tom's greatest hits, I'd say this is a very good selection. Though, it markets itself more as a 'career-spanning hits' collection as opposed to any old Greatest Hits. There is no chronology to this set, but I don't think that really matters, in the long term. It features your classic solo stuff, 'Wildflowers', 'Runnin' Down A Dream', 'Free Fallin'', 'I Won't Back Down', etc., as well as some gems from his most recent solo album, 'Highway Companion'. 'Saving Grace' is a groovy track for all ages. Naturally, we also have the greatest hits of the Heartbreakers, with 'Refugee', 'The Waiting', 'Even The Losers', 'American Girl', 'Learning To Fly', etc., as well a few tracks peppered about the track listing that seem curious to me, at best. 'Square One', for example, from that album, wasn't even a single! It's clear, then, that those who put this together - friends and family, I believe, just as with AAT - also snuck in a few tracks to show Tom at his rawest; songs that were important to him. This goes for 'Angel Dream (No. 2) and a few of the Mudcrutch tracks, too. Oh, and how are the two 'new' tracks? Great. The alternate 'The Best of Everything' is brilliant, just like the original, with a slightly different sound. And there's more of it! 'For Real' is a ground-breakingly powerful track, all the more poignant after Tom's tragic passing. All in all, it's a great Greatest Hits. The only reason I give it 4/5 is because of personal decisions on tracks they could have included (Anything else from Long After Dark, and some more from Let Me Up... would be nice) and the decision to create this in the first place. Tom megafan? Casual fan? Buy it.

Brilliant CDs For The Money
I know most of Tom Perry’s singles but have none of his albums. I picked this because of the many favourable and helpful reviews from ‘proper’ fans of this awesome human being. Each CD is over 70 minutes long and I paid £5.99 for the two. To be honest I was expecting a few ‘filler’ tracks but not so. I love every track on both CDs, which is no mean feat. I now have to figure out what classic to buy next. It’s such a shame there will be no more new music to enjoy. The production on these CDs is brilliant by the way.;-)

Great compilation
I'm not such a fan that I need to get a whole bunch of Tom Petty so this suits me fine. There's plenty on it though and quality is very high throughout.
