Solving Contact Problems with Abaqus

This book provides first a brief and clear review of contact theory implemented in Abaqus and folows a set of problems. This set of problems are unique as they clarify each Abaqus contact feature in a contextualized manner like a case study which is much better than offical documentation itself and also official contact training material at least to me. Abaqus competitor , Ansys, is know to have a wealthy of resources focused on problem solving and practical usage of theier product. But for Abaqus this is rare and this book is one of few. This book save me a lot of times and I recommend it to every Abaqus user which deals with tough contact challenges.

I brought this book in 2018 and found the book still helpful to my work in 2023. Especially for exercises 16,17,25, and 22, I referenced those models, built similar models, and applied them in my work.This book covers everything I want to know about Abaqus contact. I recommend Abaqus users, who want to know more about various Abaqus contact setups and applications, read this book.

I think this is a great book. If you actually do the example problems from the book and review through the material, you will get numerous pieces of information that are never specifically explained through Abaqus (I do not care for their user guide explanations, they are always only 2 sentences and to not ever describe as much as I would like). Why use surface smoothing? what about initial step size ? etc. etc. - If you do not know these things already, then you will find this book quite helpful

If you really want to understand the intricacies of practical Abaqus contact, without the math, this is the book. The writer was kind enough to send me the INP files for all the problems.For a lot of us, the math is a good to know but we want to solve problems efficiently and books like this are a good start. This book is always within arm's length when I do Abaqus simulations and need to resolve non-convergence issues.Great Stuff!!!

The books is good. However, following each of the examples, some of them does not match with the files, especially the constraints that appear on the files, but they are represented different in the book. In general, it gives a good understanding how contacts are behaving in abaqus. More books should be appeared more in the market in other fields.

This is one of the rare books on a difficult and challenging topic of modeling contact problems using Abaqus/CAE software. The book provides many detailed and complex models step by step. One of the most important books for serious FEA and Abaqus users to have.

Certainly, a good book if you already have the basic knowledge of the Abaqus. Strongly recommended if you wish to learn how to solve Contact Problems using Abaqus. Would be better if a chapter is devoted explaining the concepts related to nonlinear analysis.

Is there a link to download computer files (.cae Files) for the exercises in this book? My paperback copy did not show a link. Thanks
