Not what I expected

First time I opened the tin, it smelled amazing. I was really looking forward to using it. First time rubbing it into my beard the scent changed quickly from sweet and pleasant to what I can only describe as a piece of leather that got stuck in a box with a cheap cigar for a day or two. It's not a terrible scent but it's not close to cigar and cognac. I was really hoping for much better.
