Unofficial Guide to Ancestry.com: How to Find Your Family History on the No. 1 Genealogy Website

This book has helped me so much already and I just bought it a couple of weeks ago. I feel it is helping me make the most of my Ancestry subscription. I keep it next to my computer during the day when I am working on my family tree and if I have a question, it is in this book. Easier to use than searching for help on Ancestry's site. I keep reading it and studying it and making notes on what to do when I am back on my computer.Thank you for writing this book!

Really easy to use! Lots of tips on other than the basic places to search, and how to use these other searches. On my first search I found an army death record with a photo of my 3great grandfather from the Civil War! That find alone was worth the purchase price of this book.

The publishing company has no control over what is written on the Amazon site. I will be especially interested in the interaction between Ancestry and Family Tree Maker. Future updates as available.

I found this book to be very informative and will definitely help me in my search on Ancestry.com. It held my attention and gave me information nowhere I can look an examine to maybe find out more about my elusive side of my family.

Excellent book on using complicated software! Ancestry.com may look simple at first, but it's easy to make mistakes. This book helps guide you through the possible pitfalls and explains various techniques of getting the most out of your subscription. A must for every user!

It is rather hard to work off of the Kindle version, because I would of liked to be able to go back and forth in the guide while I'm on-line. Should of gotten the hard-copy instead. The content though is very thorough and practical. Just haven't spent enough time with it yet.

GOOD BOOK

As a new user of Ancestry.com I found the book very helpful. I just started using it and am "working along with the book" as I go page by page. Slow but very helpful. I should say that I am also a relative new computer user.

First of all, I got the Kindle version and it is perfect to be able to electronic search, copy web links, tips and lists into OneNote (or EverNote) without manually rewriting them. Anyone who says this book is an old repeat of Ancestry.com Help pages has NOT read the book. It is full of advice, strategies and tips and as of today (Feb 16, 2015) was last updated in 2014. Of course there are some how-to's to do certain tasks and why not? But instead of re-writing all the Ancestry Help pages the author sometimes just provides live links to them. Instead of Ancestry's FAQ style of instruction this book is more of a conversational workflow style. Between this book, Ancestry Help and the Ancestry Community you will probably have 90% of everything you will ever need for your genealogy. (anybody want to buy my 6 other genealogy books that are now redundant?) BTW you DO NOT need a Kindle tablet to read a Kindle book. You can download the book on your own device type (Mac, PC or mobile) with the suitable app. All my How-To books are now going to be in Kindle version.
