Easy contraption, but So helpful
When I received this, I thought "really, that's it?". (It's such a simple thing - blue stretchy stuff, plus a white funnel type thing.) BUT when I put it on my son's cast, and hooked it up to the vacuum, he was SO thrilled!! This REALLY does provide the relief someone in a cast is looking for! It moves the air, creating a cooler and drier environment inside the cast. It is instant relief, and brought a smile to my son's face (and he's not a smiling kid in general). :-) He had been complaining of "stinging" and itching (inside of his cast - probably because he gets sweaty), and he says that this completely relieves it. Yay!! Maybe I didn't read the description, or maybe I just missed something in what I was reading, but... I didn't realize that this needed to be hooked up to a vacuum. It's a bit fiddly to have to hold the vacuum hose to this, and obviously it's loud (hearing your vacuum humming while you have this on your cast), but IT'S WORTH IT. P.S. This company ships quickly and provides excellent customer service. I wish I wouldn't have paid extra for faster shipping - it would've shipped out (and arrived) ASAP regardless. Plus, Amazon had a bit of a glitch with the shipping speed. As I placed the order, it said it would arrive on Saturday (with 2 day shipping). After the order was placed, it said it would arrive on Monday (with 2 day shipping). I was NOT happy about that. I talked with the CastCooler people the next morning - they were VERY nice and helpful (and they had already shipped it out) - and they said it's an Amazon glitch (with telling the date it would arrive with my 2 day shipping). So bummer on Amazon on that one. But it was still worth the price, because the CastCooler is THAT good.

Piece of over priced garbage
Difficult to put on by yourself . Is not applicable to all casts (did not fit wrist cast ) If you could get it to seal and draw air through it , would be worth only $5

LOVE IT! Helped keep cool and prevent smell and itching.
I was a little hesitant after reading some reviews about how thin or cheap it seems, it don’t let that fool you. It was the BEST investment made during our daughters time in a cast. No problem trying to stick stuff in cast to scratch, this kept her skin dry so it rarely itched. We took a handheld vacuum on vacation with us (harder to use, but a lifesaver in 90deg heat). When connected to regular vacuum, able to move (or play on tablet) without problems, very easy to use! Her cast had faint odor when it was removed, not the typical smell I was expecting. I recommend this to anyone that has a cast! It is a little pricey, but well worth it to us. (I don’t know how some people get discount for review, but I paid full price.... this thing is worth it)

Great Product, works great, more expensive than it should be
As a product it works great. I love the smile on my daughters face when we use it on her, seems to help her a lot. The instructions seem overly complicated about folding, all we did was trim to size (so it overlaps for sure), stretched the film over the plastic nozzle (doesn't rip as easy as some reviews seem to make it), then wrap one side and then the other and turn on the vacuum. I agree with others that it seems pretty overpriced for what you get, but this seems to be a very small business, so they may not get volume discounts and as far as I have found there are no other products like this on the market. I think at 20-25 dollars, they would still make a good profit and it would be a good deal, 40+ is pretty expensive. That being said, it works great, doesn't risk infection by scratching the skin and works well, so I would definitely purchase it again if a need arose.

This is really facinating...
I have for my hubby's fiberglass cast from ankle surgery that goes up just short of his knee. His latest one is a walking cast is is more snug than it's predecessor. As such, it get a lot warmer and itchier. I took a chance on one of these because the itch was waking him up in the middle of the night. He was surprised, it works! It's an odd sensation to feel the cool inside the cast but welcome none the less. He says it's pretty localized so, he use it in several places (maybe because the cast is a bit snug). The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I think it puts a pretty heavy load on a regular vacuum cleaner. I have a Dyson that I connect to it and it strains it quite a bit. A shop vac would be better but, he doesn't really want to drag it in or, go sit in the garage to use it instead of the dyson. That aside, this was well worth the money. He's an adult but, I can imagine this would make kids much more comfortable with their casts and minimize their poking stuff down their casts to deal with the itch.

Yes, it is overpriced if you literally consider the price of the components and what it might cost to make; but if you look at as a 'device' it's bloody brilliant. It is worth the money? Yes! Really helps with the itching and cast surprisingly feels fresh. This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review, because when considering this as a purchase you might get put off by the 'not worth the money' reviews - I nearly was - but it's worth it for the benefits you get and there simply isn't another alternative that is as effective.

My wife broke her wrist and had several casts over a twelve week period. She broke her wrist whilst out running and didn't want to stop running even with a cast on, but as you might imagine, the cast really smelled bad after the first two weeks, so I bought her the CastCooler to use with her second (and subsequent) casts and it made the world of difference. Not only did it cool her arm down and remove the sweat from under the cast extremely efficiently, I understand the sensation was very satisfying and prevented much of the itching associated with the first cast when she had no CastCooler to use.

Very expensive for a simple bit of plastic and does not dry cast

I cannot recommend the CastCooler highly enough. As some have said before it's not cheap for a piece of vinyl and plastic but in my mind it's worth every penny for the relief it provides. I broke my leg a few weeks ago, it is hot, itchy and uncomfortable in a cast. I have tried using a hairdryer on a cool setting, it helped a little, when I saw this I had to give it a go even though I was feeling a little cynical, when it arrived I strapped it on and the feeling of relief was immense, my mum said that I looked like a kid at Christmas :-)
