Astonishingly not bad for $100
I have a Kurt DX6 That is my primary vise on my bridgeport but I needed to steal it to use for a setup on my CNC that has Saunders vises that were just too small for what I needed. After the CNC was setup and running I ended up needing to run a job on the bridgeport but had no vise. So I took a chance on this one for $100. You dont get much for $100 these days and I was expecting garbage. I'll start out by saying this is no Kurt... But... its astonishingly not bad. It did arrive with sharp edges like other reviewers said, and I had to file and stone it right out of the box. The screw needed some oil and the whole thing just needed to be cleaned up a little bit. Once that was done I mounted it on the mill and threw up my indicator. Tapped it around and got the vise within .001" X Y and Z. Jaws come together perfect and you can put some weight on the vise handle to clamp something down. Does what it needs to do and does it pretty well. The only thing I dont like is that the mounting slots are about .820" wide, which makes it awkward to mount with 1/2" studs but still doable with some heavy washers. All in all, like I said, astonishingly not bad for $100.

Good milling vice for the money.
Two of these are a perfect fit on my mini-mill. Tight tolerances don't let the jaws tilt, keeping the workpiece square, and they didn't require shimming to keep the vices level with each other.

Glad I took a chance!
Really good for the price. Wish I could afford a “Kurt,” but I can’t. And as a hobbyist, I would be overkill. For the price, I could give it five stars, but I took one off due to the need to take it completely apart to clean and file (or sand) down the razor sharp edges. I knew this was needed from watching YouTube reviews. I’m sure this is one of the ways they keep the price down. I used a good test indicator across the machined surfaces and it checked out very well. Vice jaw opening is more than advertised and I the rear jaw can be moved to the back to hold a piece around 12 inches. This is not just a “first impression.” I have used it on my “old but rebuilt” Bridgeport J-head mill, and am pleased with its performance. My only complaint is the sloppy handle. The socket end fits fine. It is the pivot part that is sloppy. I’m sure all the lesser priced vise manufacturers buy the same sloppy vice handle for a couple of dollars. I will either make a new one, or buy one of the combo speed handles. Don’t let that deter you. The handle is functional, just not the quality I want, but the vice is still a great value.

Nice quality
Tight clamp, works well.

Plenty useable and a crazy good price
No complaints... I run it in my HAAS mini mill and it does a fine job for the low tolerance work I use it for. A little jaw lift, but I have made lots of stuff with it. Plenty useable and a crazy good price

High quality for the money
I expected this to be a crappy Chinese vise I used to have 15 years ago. I used a Kurt DX6 before so I’m comparing this $120 to a $700+ vise. It’s not a Kurt, but surprisingly…it’s the same in regards to functionality. It holds a part with good accuracy. Parts do not shift at all with heavy clamping from one edge. Not even 0.0001”. Yes. Tenths gauge is rock solid when I put half my body weight on the vise screw. Just like a Kurt DX6. Make sure to wear gloves and spend an hour deburring all the knife edges it has. They will split your hand open easily. Moving the jaws isn’t as smooth. A Kurt glides like glass. This vise felt stiff. Lots of cleaning and using proper way oil helped. Just be glad there’s a good option like this if you’re just starting out. Great for a home gamer. I’m using it on my CNC. If you want a dual or triple vise setup on your table at home this starts to make a lot more sense. $1500 vs $250 is kind of a wild difference. Just make sure your table is big enough if you get the 6”. These vises aren’t small.

Careful: razor sharp edges!
The vise arrived today in a fairly beat-up box. Inside, the vise is shipped upside-down in protective styrofoam. But there was nothing protecting the vise base (at the top, as it's upside-down)! And there's a good inch of air space between that vice bottom surface and the inside top of the box, so I'm guessing that there SHOULD be styrofoam there. Perhaps this was a returned unit, re-shipped. Thankfully, despite the lack of protection of the banged-up box, the base surface seems OK. Just a few nicks that should stone out. While lifting the vice out of the box, I gave myself quite a nasty cut on my left index finger, right across the inside knuckle. After finally staunching the bleeding and getting back to the vice, I found (carefully this time!) that almost all of the top surfaces have razor-sharp edges. Nothing is deburred or filed or chamfered. So beware! I took a good file to all of the edges to knock them down. The vice itself seems really well made (apart from the lack of deburring), heavy and very solid. The mechanism is taught but slides well, with no grittiness. There's no sign of rust, and the paint is applied well. The jaws are 5 1/16 inch wide and it opens to 5 15/16 (not quite 6) inches. The supplied handle is pretty basic, and I'll probably make another myself. The "grade 8" bolts supplied seem OK but I'll probably not trust/use them. And one of the two supplied washers is D-shaped (manufacturing defect). No big deal. I don't know why all vices of this design tend to waste vertical real-estate, when every 1/4 inch of Z travel on a small hobby mill is precious. The base on this could easily be 1/2 inch thinner with no loss of utility. In summary: it's a good solid vice, good value, and there's a good chance that I'll buy another. But I'm knocking off 2 stars because of the poor packaging and my blood loss.
