Hailing from the very late 1950s, the fragrance of Tabac is unlike any other aftershave I've encountered. In the days that smoking was considered cool, the fragrance was designed to complement that "masculine" scent of tobacco. Thankfully that doesn't mean you'll smell like an ashtray but that the accent of fresh tobacco is part of the fragrance, along with aromatic, musky, woody and spicy elements. The glass bottle that this aftershave comes in retains the classic style associated with Tabac and adds to the nostalgic feeling of using this product. There is nothing really comparable to the scent of Tabac and that probably accounts for its long-lasting appeal. It really is a classic fragrance but that isn't to say that the scent is universally popular and it probably isn't for every occasion. I would definitely recommend sampling the fragrance before committing to buying it. Tabac aftershave has a good cooling effect when splashed on the neck after shaving and the fragrance lasts probably a couple of hours. Of course aftershaves never have the longevity of eau de toilettes or colognes. A spray or two of the eau de toilette adds longevity to the scent of the aftershave. The cologne is also good but disappointingly neither are readily available in the UK although can be found at a reasonable price from time to time on Amazon. I find the Tabac range in general to be excellent. Tabac has a large range of products that complement the scent of the aftershave including deodorant, shower gel, soap, shaving soap and beard oil as well as a spray version of eau de toilette. Some items are more expensive than others according to availability but the aftershave is readily available and a good indication of the fragrance as a whole. I definitely recommend this aftershave and, if you like it, you might find yourself collecting the other Tabac products.

I've found with these modern versions of scents from the 1970s you tend to get one of two things - either (1) a pale imitation of what was originally a nice scent - usually smelling not much like the original 1970s version and not lasting long at all; or (2) a pretty faithful reproduction of the 1970s original. I'm pleased to say this is the latter - was nice to see this product is made in Germany. it smells like I remember Tabac smelling in the 1970s - a slightly sweet, fairly subtle masculine scent with some musky undertones, but the latter are not overpowering by any means. Overall a clean and versatile scent. Very different to today's spicy or citrus toned scents. My only issue is that it lasts a little less than I remember it did in the 1970s. Still, at this price, excellent value for a vintage fragrance that is true to the original.

As this was a150ml and larger then the standard bottle this was a terrific buy and very quick delivery.

Doesn't have the same strong scent as bought from a high street shop

This product has been on the market for decades and has withstood the test of time. A very good value quality fragrance. Sweet aroma but still masculine. This was initially purchased for me as a gift and has many happy memories for me.

Have you ever wanted to smell like a German dad in the 1960s? Yeah, me too, and that's why I bought this classic. Unfortunately, it's counterpart that is supposed to make you smell like an American dad in the 1960s, Old Spice, has been long diluted into a complete shell of it's former glory by Procter & Gamble. Cheap plastic bottles have replace the old school ceramic style ones, and the scent itself lasts for about 20 minutes before completely vanishing into a cheap, generic soapy smell. Maurer & Wirtz has held onto the Tabac brand since creation, and the aftershave is still bottled in high quality ceramic, with nice precision fluid stoppers built in, and the scent is as strong and vibrant as it ever has been I imagine. It's a classically masculine floral scent that admittedly, not every person, especially nowadays, will love. I'm definitely an old soul, however, and this is strongly within my wheelhouse. If you like scents such as Old Spice, Aqua Velva, or even Skin Bracer, I recommend this as it's essentially Germany's own verison of those, and just as timeless.
