I had the locking ring, first one lasted a year, second one lasted about 4 months. I decided to try the magnetic one. The ring became completely loose after 1 week. Magnet was nice and strong but the durability doesn't seem very good.

Company went above and beyond rectifying a situation that was most likely Amazon's fault to begin with not sure but either way this is a company that stands by their product and provides great support to their customers. On to the ring, it's subjective people rating it for being too heavy either can't read or don't know wtf a solid piece of metal weighs, this is a CNC'd piece of metal and magnet people, of course it's going to be heavy if it isn't a Chinese POS. Once I got the correct item this is a very well crafted ring. It works great on most cases I tried it on, if it didn't adhere well to the case it was the case was cheaply made, not this ring. Even on the cheap cases it still held strongly and sticking it to metal objects the phone was pretty secure. Worked great in the gym so now I don't have to leave my phone on the floor anymore between sets.
