No, your coins are not actually stored on the Nano, it's more like a cryptographic interface that enables you & only you to access your tokens. When you set-up your Nano you have a password you use to open/access it plus 12 or 24 keywords which you write down & keep the list in a safe place. Yes Item can be legit - Just make sure that the seller on Amazon is Ledger. Thats what I did and it came direct from Ledger, France.

I had a Nano S for 3 years but then switched to the Nano X. It's much easier to use a Nano X, you can load lots more tokens, use Bluetooth, better build quality etc. I keep my Nano S as an emergency back-up but prefer the Nano X.

An Un-trustworthy ‘Cold’ wallet

Why would anyone purchase a cold wallet, only to be let down by the manufacturer who has opened up a security hole in the ecosystem through their ‘recover’ function. It might be a good idea in principle, but in reality this has simply made the devices susceptible to being hacked. Poor form from Ledger.
