Works awesome. Just be careful which side you etch

Like giving cats a bath
It’s difficult and definitely not for children. This is one of the most frustrating things I’ve done in my life lol. There are no instructions so unless you know what you’re doing don’t bother, it will drive you crazy. The materials are difficult to work with, especially the film that goes on the outside. I decided to just add some paint to the etched parts to get the color. It wasn’t worth trying to get the foil off the plastic film. Later I cheated and glued the film to the outside. It’s just there to color the etchings so you can skip it and use thin acrylic paint. Speaking of etching, the knife pen isn’t very helpful and the coating on the acrylic pieces is difficult to remove. It’s thick and textured so getting straight or crisp lines is almost impossible. I highly recommend using a small dremel tool. This makes the etching cloudy but you can just fill them with a clear resin or nail polish if you want a crispier clearer finish. I didn’t bother with the wax they included because holding it together while melting wax is crazy. I use black hot glue. You need to seal it together with some dark to keep the light out of the seams but I think you could also just paint seam if you needed to use clear glue. It’s pretty cool when it’s done but it’s like giving a cat a bath trying to make it. If you like a challenge it’s worth the money but if you’re not sure what to do without instructions or are easily frustrated I’d pass.

Skip it!
This product did not come with instructions I will keep it for a pattern for making a real stained glass Kaleidoscopes but I found it incredibly difficult trying to stick the paper on the glass cube properly without it making it look bad. After me and my son struggled to put it together we got frustrated and decided to throw in the towel. Put back in the box and on a shelf. It was a good idea but poorly executed.

Fun!
I had so much fun putting this kaleidoscope kit together! The kit comes with everything you need to make a functional and exciting kaleidoscope. Scratching the designs in can be a bit tricky on the ridged surface, but any mistakes just become part of the art once you look through the opening. I loved this and will definitely be getting another one to try again!

No directions, horrible packaging
I got this kaleidoscope kit as a gift for someone, it's just a bunch of flimsy materials with no directions on how to assemble this. So annoying!

Creates an amazing picture, but hard for a younger kid to help with
Once put together, the kaleidoscope was beautiful. Hardest part had more to do with attention span, than skill, as my nephew of 8 wasn't much of a help.

Not for a child
The advertisement does say it is great for a family project, but even at that, it would be very hard for a child to help. My granddaughter is 9 years old and I would not want her cutting with an sharp blade to cut out the stencils, or using a flame to melt the glue stick. I will put the kaleidoscope together myself because I love them, and probably give it to her to play with. I cannot, with this preview, say how well it went together or how it worked because I haven't done it yet, I just wanted people to know it is for older children that can handle the items I mentioned.

This Kaleidoscope kit is a great activity for you kids that both teach about light and end up with a cool decoration for their room. The kit is easy to assemble and the instructions are clear. Very cool.
