What do I need this thing for?
After reading the reviews on various tools of this sort and an immediate need for a this kind of tool I settled on this brand. I decided to go mid range on the price and this tool had high ratings. Not using a tool like this before to add coolant to a cooling system I was a bit apprehensive as to how it would work. The application I needed it for was on a class A motor home that would not accept the fluids by gravity flow. I knew how much fluid I had drained from the system but could not inject the same amount by filling the recovery bottle, as this was the only means to get fluid into the system. The heater core being the highest component in the system seemed to create the problem. Upon a "How to" search I learned about the process of using the vacuum method to charge the system. How did it work? --- The tool is well built and the adaptors that came with the tool served me well. I had to mount the tool on the recovery bottle and since I was changing all the hoses I put a vacuum test on the system to see how the tool worked. It pulled a heavy vacuum and held it for hours before I changed hoses. I did a radiator flush and had to add water to the system and all went as expected. After changing all the hoses I put a vacuum on the system to see if all the fittings were tight and it held a vacuum for over 24 hours. This was an indicator the tool sealed well to the recovery bottle and that there would not be any leaks in the new hose joints. The screen on the charging hose was not an issue for me as the fluids were sucked into the system in short order. This was about 4 1/2 gallons in a 5 gal. bucket. There was still a vacuum in the system when the system was full. Because the gauge is on top of the unit and my recovery bottle is elevated I had to use a mirror to read the dial which was not a problem. i have a 5 horse compressor in my shop and air pressure set at 125 psi. Using 100 ft of air hose to the RV it pulled the vacuum down in about 2 min. This tool uses two hoses. One for the vacuum and one for the fluid transfer. I found no problem with the interchange of the hoses and the ball valves worked well. I did elevate the 5 gal bucket with the antifreeze to the proximity of the recovery bottle to help the transfer. The directions were plain enough to get the job done and after playing with the tool a bit it all fell into place. Mission accomplished! I would recommend this tool for the quality and ease of use. Unless you break this unit it should last a long time. I am glad I bought this one.

Best Cooling System Tool Hands Down
No complaints with this tool, don’t know how I worked without it for 10 years. Makes leak detection super simple, fills cooling systems completely both times I’ve used it since it was delivered Thursday. Pro tip, it can also be used as a vacuum siphon tool with the right container and some clever engineering, for that I think it deserves 5 stars. Three tools in one and for the price, and you can’t beat how rugged it is. Would buy again but I don’t see this thing breaking anytime soon.

Great tool! Highly recommend
This is probably one of the best tools you will find for removing air from a coolant system. It's well built, comes with everything you need and gets the job done. My brother has been using this exact model for years and I finally decided to pick one up for myself.

ESSENTIAL COOLING SYSTEM TOOL
This tool is an absolute "must have" for anyone who performs cooling system repairs on a routine basis. Instantly increased my productivity by reducing long drawn out air bleed procedures to mere minutes. There are many variations of this tool available in the marketplace. But the old adage holds true..."You get what you pay for". Now owning it for a few months, the solid metal construction of the Airlift shows no wear with everyday use, has proven to be a valued resource, and perform s flawlessly. I love tools that pay for themselves in less than a week! The only regret I have is that I didn't buy it years ago! PROS: Solid construction, ease of use, minimal moving parts, consistent performance, increased productivity CONS: Basic single compartment storage container is not padded. With all the loose parts free to move around, the vacuum gauge could potentially get damaged at some point. Adding my own protective foam inserts wasn't a big deal, but it would have been nice to see that keeping your tool investment free from damage was a higher priority.

Actually works unlike the cheap blue case ones all over amazon
Doesn't leak, and quality materials. Valves work, all metal construction. The cheapo ones on amazon are hybrid brass/plastic and are useless. Only issues with this option are the case is lame, and the gauge glass is plastic, and there is a warning sticker on it that leaves a ton of residue when you peel it off.

Time saved is worth more than the cost
This tool is a must have. I bought this specifically for my ls engine after researching about changing the coolant and finding out air pockets can be common. Not wanting to risk overheating I thought I would try it. Super easy to hook up, draws down all of the air in the system in less than a minute with a small homeowner air compressor. Worst case you could always close the valve and let the compressor cycle before drawing more vacuum if your compressor is really small. Switch to the fill attachment after you have sucked some antifreeze to fill the tube, connect it and open the valve on the head and then the tube and it will fill the system on both sides of the thermostat in less than a minute. After the gauge reads zero, remove the gauge heat from the overflow, replace the cap and you’re done. No air in the system. This tool is worth the cost just for the time savings alone, not to mention no mess, and no risk of an air pocket by your thermostat possibly causing overheating and possible engine damage. The tool is very well made with brass ball valves and a nice gauge. If you’re reading these reviews, just buy it.

I purchased this kit to change the coolant in a 2008 F350 6.4L diesel truck and it did a great job of rapidly refilling the cooling system through 4 flushes with distilled water and then loading the coolant. It is a pretty well thought out tool and is very well built. It does work best if the engine is cold because if there is remaining distilled water in the engine or heater core (and there always seemed to be about 10 litres left in the system even after draining the engine block) the water tends to boil when you pull a vacuum on it. Not really a problem, but something to be aware of. I ran it with a 3/4 HP 2.7 CFM air compressor and that was plenty big enough to get the job done. Then I had to do a 4 corner brake job on the truck, including replacing the 4 calipers. I got a glass jam jar (E.D. Smith) out of the recycling bin and a plastic jar lid with matching threads (Hellman's Mayo), cut a large hole in the lid for the OD of the rubber sleeve on the vacuum pump and a 3/8" hole in the lid for the OD of a vinyl hose with 1/4" ID that will fit over the bleeder screw on the calipers. (See photo) Leave the end of this small hose that is inserted into the bottle lid a couple of inches off the bottom to give room for the extracted brake fluid to accumulate. Shazamm! A one person vacuum operated brake bleeding system! It did a really great job of bleeding the brakes quickly and without a second person to pump the brake pedal. (Wife appreciated this feature!) I did put the glass jar into a small bucket lined with rags in case of an implosion, but had no problems at all. A pity that UView didn't include the parts to perform this function as part of the kit. Overall, if you DIY cooling systems or brakes this is a good tool to have. I am sure I'll also find lot of other uses for a rough and ready vacuum pump.

Used this on a 996 Carrera which can be notoriously difficult to refill - this made it easy! Word of advice have a helper on hand as it can be slightly tricky to do it by yourself but by no means impossible. Highly recommended tool to have - excellent quality as well.
