Reliable Hard Drive for Surveillance Systems
I installed the WD Purple 2TB drive in my security system, and it’s been working flawlessly. It handles continuous recording without any issues, and the 64MB cache seems to help with smooth performance. I like that it’s specifically designed for surveillance, so I feel confident it will last. Easy to install in my NVR, and no glitches so far. Definitely a solid choice for anyone needing a dependable hard drive for cameras.

WD Purple Pro 12TB – The Hard Drive That Never Sleeps (Because It’s Watching You Sleep)
I bought this beast to drop into my Amcrest NVR system because apparently, my house needed the same level of surveillance as Fort Knox. Spoiler alert: it works perfectly — and now my house is basically the Truman Show, but with better resolution. 🎥 Why I Love This Drive: 12 Terabytes of "You Saw Nothing, Officer" Seriously, it holds weeks of 4K footage from multiple cameras, including the one pointed at my driveway that’s mostly squirrels doing parkour. Purpose-Built for Paranoia Designed for 24/7/365 surveillance workloads. No naps. No coffee breaks. Just pure, tireless storage of every Amazon delivery and mysterious leaf blower incident. Plug-and-Paranoia Installation Installed in my Amcrest NVR like it was born there. No firmware drama, no compatibility tantrums. Just silence... and a blinking light of judgment. Cooler Than Your Ex Runs quiet, stays cool, and doesn’t randomly ghost you like a desktop hard drive shoved into a job it wasn’t hired for. 512MB Cache = Smooth Playback Rewinding suspicious backyard activity in crisp HD has never been this satisfying. Even if it was just a raccoon again. 🧠 Final Thoughts: If you're serious about home security (or just want to capture footage of your neighbor stealing your trash cans), this is the drive. It’s like a security guard that never blinks and never asks for a raise. Buy it. Install it. Sleep easy — unless you're worried what it might've caught you doing

Only Drives i use
Cant go wrong with WD Hard drives, had one fail and they told me it would be credited and to just order another one. not very often do they fail and when they do they warranty them. Easy to install not real loud and function great for my security deployments

Two bad units. Buyer beware.
This is the second faulty bed (WD Purple HDD, 8tb) I have received. I've used Western Digital for years and never had this kind of experience. The first one appeared to be new in original Western Digital packaging. It failed to spin up and would not be.recognized by my system (Reolink RLN36 NVR). It was returned and I reordered the same part number again. For test purposes I repurposed a used Western Digital Black 1tb drive to verify that the system was not faulty. It performs as expected, so I know my system is not the problem. The second drive was not shipped in any kind of factory original packaging. A bubble wrap bag was the only protection, other than the anti static bag immediately around the drive. Upon power up this drive spins up and the heads repeatedly go through a cycle that is far louder than normal - the type of noise a drive makes when failure is imminent - and it never gets recognized by the system. As of this writing my return of the first drive has not been processed and now the second one does not work. I'm out almost $400 of my money and still can't use my system. I plant to buy from a distributor that will send me a properly packaged drive, handled in the correct way before it reaches me. Apparently Amazon and this vendor are not up to that task.

Good hard drive
Good hard drive for surveillance (continuous) use. My last one lasted ~4 years and ran great the whole time.

Trying a different one
Not compatible with certain nvr devices but smaller ones should work

Works great
This replaced a 1TB drive in our Swann DVR surveillance system. It was delivered on time and is working flawlessly. I would buy it again.

Reliable in NVR
I had the 2GB version continuously recording for 7 years with zero issues. Just got the 3GB now and tested OK, brand new (mfg. Sep. 2025).
