I've been looking for a replacement gate latch for quite some time. Most of the ones available at my local big box store were either too large or too flimsy for my needs. I was almost going to cobble together something myself when I saw this one on Amazon. It's perfect. It fits exactly where I needed it to fit and is heavy duty enough to last many years. The spring loaded latch was an extra added bonus. It was easy to install and looks great.

Got this to replace an overworked, undermanufactured gate latch on our fence. The previous one was made of aluminum which ended up just bending and failing to latch. The gate is metal so there was no way to mount it in a different spot. This latch is much sturdier, and is made of metal. The male side wraps around the square gate perfectly. I ended up not using the screws in the package. Instead I drilled out the mounting holes and used metal rivets so they wouldn't work loose. Once I had the rivets installed, this thing wouldn't budge. I used 2 1/4 inch decking screws to mount the female side to the square fencing post to provide a bit more purchase area to prevent loosening on that side as well. I see this one lasting many years.

I replaced a partially plastic lock with this latch. Much better build quality than original equipment. Be advised, I had to redrill several holes due to the dimensions being slightly different.

Nice latch. The good: the rod side is a corner mount to keep it where you want it. The cable and spring works very well. I used a longgggg 1/8” drill bit to make the hole for it. The not so good: the corner bracket holes are exactly opposite each other. So if you put a longer screw in the front, it will block the screw coming through from the side. The screws are junk. The first one I screwed in got part way in and the head snapped off. Fortunately I have a bunch of #10 screws so I tossed the soft supplied screws and used Good Steel screws. Other than the screws and the screw hole alignment this is a really nice latch.

Great latch. The other locking bars kept breaking but this one is very strong.

I needed a replacement for a complicated gate latch that I fought with every time I needed to open the gate. This design is just like the small ones you might see in the local hardware store, just somewhat larger and more substantive. I have installed this in place of the irritating latch, and am loving it! The bar fitting (gate side), has a 90-degree plate for attachment, which worked perfectly on the orientation of the 2x4 on the latch side of the gate (opposite the hinges). No chance of it loosening from use!

Unlike the old lock that bent easily, this one feels robust and durable, holding up to daily use with no signs of wear or damage. The locking mechanism operates smoothly, keeping the gate securely closed but still easy to open with the key.
