An enjoyable collection
Whilst Eddie Piller’s name is on the front cover the bulk of this collection comes from the list of 100 mod songs chosen by 60s mod Randy Cozens and published in the British music press for the education of the late 70s mod revivalists. The idea was to do a box set of all of Cozen’s list but licensing issues mean that only 81 were available. Piller has added an additional 19 songs to make up the 100 and adds an essay on Cozens for the accompanying booklet. Piller says this is why it’s not marketed using Cozen’s name although the accompanying booklet goes into Cozen’s history in some detail with photos, and each track that existed in his original top 100 is presented in order with the original placing recorded in the booklet. I’ve bought quite a few CD compilations of 1960s “mod” music - namely a mix of soul, blues, blue beat etc. Whilst many of the artists are familiar I was surprised how many of the tracks I didn’t know. But Cozens knew his stuff. This is one of the most enjoyable compilations of its type I’ve heard - and possibly the best.

Faultless!
What a splendid set of 100 tracks! A handful were already known to me, but so many were new to my ears, and what a treat! And discovering Toussaint McCall's 'Nothing Takes The Place Of You' is almost worth the £35 alone!

A lovely, well researched compilation of 60's soul.
I absolutely love this compilation, in my opinion the music is fantastic and extremely well compiled. There are 100 tracks on the compilation and the best way to play is from disc 4 through to 3, 2 and 1.Compilation contains legendary tracks, so if you want to be part of 'The In Crowd'I would suggest you give this CD collection a listen!!!Well recommended!!!!

Eddie Piller The Mod Top 100
It’s rare to get a collection that is filled with rarely heard tracks as good as this compilation presented here by Eddie Piller. I’m on disc 2 just now, and it is just phenomenal.

Superb collection of rare (and a few not so rare) soul records
This collection cannot be recommended highly enough. A bit pricey it may be but it's worth every penny for the sheer number and range of tracks on offer. Eddie Piller has compiled a set largely reflecting the Top 100 Mod tracks compiled by former 60s' soul DJ Randy Cozens (who sadly passed away in 2003) and they are mainly sequenced according to Randy's own listing, though 19 of them, almost exclusively on Disc 4, are Eddie's own choice in order to make the numbers up to 100 (the explanation for this in the accompanying booklet isn't clear, though these tracks are just as good as the other 81). While there's some overlap with other releases and a few familiar mainstream tunes (Fontella Bass's "Rescue Me" perhaps being the most prominent among them) the majority are fairly obscure tip-top tunes that more than hold their own against more recognisable fare. Among my favourites are Candy and the Kisses' "The 81", Toussaint McCall's "Nothing Takes The Place of You" and Jimmy Hughes' "Steal Away", but there really isn't a duff track among them, and the reproduction is crystal clear too. This is emphatically a must-buy collection for every lover of 60s' soul music.
