No, this will not stop a damned knife attack. First off, this is butted wire steel. This is not even vaguely close to historically accurate, nor battle grade. Look up the requirements for Historical Medieval Battles, Society of Creative Anachronism, or Armored Combat League if you want to understand armor that can survive real steel full force combat. Being wire steel, it is made of a specific kind of modern steel engineered to be soft, because soft means its easy to bend into shape... because its wire. The second problem is that its butted, the rings are not welded or riveted shut. To defeat this costume stuff, all you need to do is deliver a blow that can bend the wire rings open enough to slash or stab someone. This will not, will not, will not save you from a sword. For the love of god, do not try getting your friends to slash at you with a bowie knife to prove how tough the armor is. It isn't armor. It just isn't. If you want REAL chainmail armor, you want the following qualifications. 6mm-8mm inner diameter. A smaller inner diameter means a denser chain weave which means its harder for a weapon to get through. 14-16 gauge. Any thinner than that isn't going to stop a sword. High carbon steel. Q: I am 6'4" will this mail shirt hang normally? It looks like what I want, but if it's too short I don't want to buy it and have it hanging short.

I am 6'2 and mine goes down to the top of my thighs, 3 inches above my kneecap when I wear it with just a shirt on, however mail was historically worn over a gambeson (thick padding) to absorb blows because mail alone does not protect you against blunt force. If you intend to wear this for show it will most likely cover your butt, however if you want to do combat in it you will need a gambeson (and an arming cap for your head) and I don't think it will cover you up then. I would recommend learning how to make butted mail and adding extensions for your thighs if you are going as a knight but if you are going for a Viking character I think you are fine with just the shirt. Summary: If you want functional Knight don't buy it. If you want ornamental knight buy it, If you want functional viking, buy it, if you want ornamental viking... no, no one wants to be an ornamental viking.
