They thought of everything!
The About Fluid Michigan anode rod kit, the product description, the selection advice (Al vs Mg) and the instructions were all fantastic! I'm a fairly experienced DIY plumber, but I think anyone could feel confident that this kit was the right choice when ordering, and be comfortable that they've installed it correctly. The aluminum rod is working well to keep the sulfur smell away. The segmented rod is easy to install and looks more robust than others I looked at in stores. The included 1-1/16", 6-point, deep socket worked perfectly and will be a high quality addition to your socket set; and of course, who can't use an extra roll of teflon tape! Much appreciated that About Fluid thought of everything! (Note, I completely drained and refilled our 11-year old tank and added the suggested Hydrogen Peroxide. Maybe overkill, but the smell was gone immediately. If you choose to drain your tank completely, just remember to break loose the old rod's hex fitting while the tank is mostly full, so it's weight can resist the torque of loosening the fitting.)

Even 2 56/58 year old Sisters can do it !!!
Absolutely works !!!! No more eggy smell. Great instructions, my sister and I did it. The only thing that took time was the old anode rod was sooooo hard to get out… but we did it. I would totally recommend this rod to anyone who has that smell, it worked immediately.

Amazing Product and Amazing Customer Service
Absolutely satisfied with this product!! I bought the complete package (the more expensive one) which came with the big things you would need to change out the anode rod. The quality of the tools provided were great and I still have the socket in my toolbox for if and when I need to do maintenance and decide to change the rod. Most tools needed a "handyman" (how I perceive myself, mind you) should have. I only needed to buy a 1/2" drive breaker bar, which I also found on Amazon for $12, was recommended by both YouTube DIY videos and the instructions. The instructions were absolutely awesome. It went step by step through everything through everything you needed to do and explained it as if you had no idea what you were doing, because believe me I did not. I would highly advise going through the instructions prior to doing anything to ensure you have what you need and to get your head around the 20 minute (45 minute tops) job you will have. This practice actually saved me not only time but money due to a mistake I made ordering the product but the instructions saved me from. The customer service was awesome. Quick, efficient, and very knowledgeable. As I said before, the instructions really saved me. I originally bought the magnesium rod, which upon reading the instructions, I saw it was not the rod that rids the hot water of the rotten egg smell. I immediately contacted the email on the box and within about 2 hours (surprisingly) I received a reply detailing the return policy and informing me that it is highly advised that I return the rod because it will make the issue worse and they wanted to ensure I had the right product which would give me the right result. I ordered and received the wrong rod, returned it, ordered and received the right rod, and had it installed all within the same week. Understand this: The smell may not completely come out of the water immediately especially depending on the amount of time the water has been smelling like that. The smell got exponentially better by the next day (I did run the hot water quite a bit) and it is improving as time goes on. I'm assuming it might be whatever left in the pipes and maybe residue as well (not sure). However, my family is greatly appreciative and I am only upset I did not find this fix sooner. Thank you guys for all of your help. I will be going through you guys for the next rod change or whatever may come up.

Egg smell, who?
It took us a little time to install this anode rod because we were still getting familiar with our house. Now that we know what we are doing, we could install it again in thirty minutes or less. I highly recommend it. Within an hour of installing it, our water was completely improved! The egg smell disappeared, and it now feels much better to cook and clean with it.

Follow The Instructions For An Easy Install
I purchased this Anode Rod from About Fluid for my 9 year old Kenmore 50 gallon water heater. Yes, I should have replaced it earlier. It came well packaged with clear, easy to follow instructions, along with a 1-1/6" long socket, pipe tape and the anode rod. About Fluid also sent an Email offering assistance. My water heater is in a closet with a low ceiling. Following the instructions and a few YouTube videos, I found the anode rod on the top of the water heater. It was partially covered with insulation, just below a hole in the cover at the top of the tank. I scraped away the insulation until the socket would securely fit on the anode rod. I shut off the cold water supply, opened a nearby hot water tap, set the water heater control to Pilot, and then shut off the gas supply. I drained 2 gallons of water from the tank. I tried using a ratchet with a 4' pipe on it to loosen the anode rod. Wouldn't budge. I then unscrewed the flue ducting from the top of the water heater and spun it out of the way to give access to an electric impact wrench. Using the wrench easily loosened the anode rod. I needed needle nose pliers to pull up the anode rod. I pulled it up as high as I could go with the low ceiling, and then applied vise grip pliers to the rod at the top of the water heater to keep it from falling back into the water heater. I then cut the anode rod off just above the vise grips. I did this twice. The picture shows the rod cut into 3 pieces. I laid a rag around the rod to keep the metal shavings from falling into hole. Home stretch. I put some pipe dope on the threads of the new rod and installed it. Reconnected the flue ducting. Shut off the open tap. Turned on the water supply to fill the tank. Fired up the gas. It works. A good kit, with a good price, and great instructions. I will buy from About Fluid again.

This product worked exactly as described. The kit contained everything I needed to change out the anode rod and the link style rod provided makes it simple to work in tight spaces. The rotten egg smell was gone overnight! Just follow the directions. I would recommend this to everyone!
