I have used Holbein gouaches for many years and they are consistently of excellent quality.

Perfect consistency, hasn't separated in the tube like a lot of other brands of gouache. It dries matte, and very smooth.

I didn't know that Holbein had two different types of gouache - artist gouache and ACRYLIC gouache. I did NOT know that ACRYLIC means PERMANENT - as in, it CANNOT BE REACTIVATED. Thankfully I only used it in a small portion of my painting, and when I contacted customer service they agreed to issue a full refund. It's actually a good acrylic paint - it's creamy, mixes well, stays wet/workable for a long time, and dries nice and matte. But, it was not what I wanted, so the one star off is for not being clear enough in the product images. Nowhere on the packaging does it specify that it becomes permanent once dry. For someone new to gouache who may not know the difference between traditional and acrylic gouache, it should be specified, especially since the same brand makes both! I wouldn't want anyone to ruin a piece by accidentally using a gouache that is not reworkable, so make sure you know the difference! The paint also stayed permanently on my pallette, which I will now have to scrape off.
