How to solve your squeaky Merrell boot problem.
I chose these particular boots because I wanted something that was all black which is for some reason difficult to find. Like many others have posted, these boots run a little tight with the thick padding so I bought mine a half size bigger than I normally do. That did the trick, they are still a bit snug but I know as they get broken in they should be perfect. As for the squeak. Initially there was no squeak, then out of nowhere I sounded like an angry squirrel when I walked. I have had that problem before with boots and it was usually the sole which squeaked on smooth floors like tile. These boots squeaked on every surface I walked on, even carpet so it obviously wasn't the sole. It turns out it was the insole in the bottom of the boots. They have some sort of foil bottom on them when you pull them out. I removed them and tried walking around, not more squirrel noises, nice and quiet. I spent a few buck and got some Dr. schools inserts and perfection.I'll admit you shouldn't have to spend another $5 or $10 for new inserts for a $160 pair of shoes but for me it gave me th black boots I wanted and solved the complaint many others have had.Otherwise I love the boot so far.Merrell shoe designers - try actually wearing your shoe prototypes before producing large numbers of them that have flaws. You could have easily fixed this problem by putting in different inserts.DUH!

Comfortable and functional
I love Merrell shoes. I own several pairs. The sizing is consistent and the fit is perfect for me. Merrell shoes have a more roomy foot-box... not too wide but wider than most shoes. This provides a very comfortable fir for my feet. These particular boots are hot because they are waterproof. I bought them for this reason and I did not expect them to keep my feet cool. I have work these in rainy conditions and they have performed well. I have not put them through any rigorous hiking or heavy wet conditions YET. If they perform as well as my other Merrells I will have no concerns. If style is important to you, they look good too... solid without being clunky and the color is different than most hikers/low boots. The tread is adequate... not overly rugged but versatile and appropriately aggressive. I would recommend these for their intended purpose (wet and light-winter conditions). They are simply too hot to wear for extended periods on mild weather days.

Warm and durable.
Seem to fit a little tight but they are a hiker not a pac boot, they will probably loosen up with time. The only thing i cant figure out is why the lugs on the left boot are yellow and the right gray. After 1 day the inner sole noise others have reported is in full effect. If your borderline on sizing i would go bigger.Final thoughts after wearing them for a week or so, the grip on slipery surfaces is definatly above par.The side pull strap is for decoration only as it servers no purpose when pulled on , unless im missing something???? Thinking about cutting them off. The traditional pull strap location would have surficed.

Deliverance of Quality! (Squeaky Reviews Resolved)
This is a high quality comfortable well made boot even by Merrell standards this is one of their better boots! Fit perfectly (snug) to size. Form and function to an all day outdoor durable work, construction, hiker, active outdoors, with great protection, traction, warmth without being clumsy or overly heavy as other boots with similar offerings. Appearance and feel that transfers from robust outdoor use to going into a nicer restaurant or other indoor public place without noticeablity or effect. Agile enough to wear indoors or the home without destruction of flooring, or clumsy ackward heaviness that would mandate taking them off for such ackwardness being your own home or a friends. The feel of confidence and longevity!I own the zipper pair as well and these are a little more rugged and robust as expected between a lace up and a slip in.SQUEEK OR NOISE IS THE Common issue on The Polarand Boots, the culprit is the heat active insole insert which has aluminum layer underneath it (see picture) revealing little circles and the front toe box which can rub on the underneath to make noises while walking ect. To resolve this potential squeak put talcum powder between the removable insert and boot or use your own insole... This happens on any shoe with removable insoles pending on materials used and foot movement to fit, not a defect or sighn of low quality at all. Same goes for Outsoles and tread material design of all shoes when walking across different surfaces some make noises differently than others when for example walking across a basketball court or shopping mall floor.

I'm sure it's a good boot, but...
I have no doubt these boots work very well - just not on my feet. I wear a size 11.5 to a 12, so I ordered a 12. The 12 was WAY too small. Since 12.5 isn't available in this boot, I ordered a 13. The 13 fit OK and felt food on my feet, but when I walked my heel continued to slip in them. I tightened the laces as best I could (without cutting off my circulation), and the problem persisted. Certainly not an ideal fit for day hiking. On a related note, it was very difficult to cinch the laces; the lace itself as well as the lace holes were not conducive to holding the lace as well as other boots do (the laces stayed loose unless I was pulling them very tight).

Merrell Upholds the Tradition of Excellence
I have a pair of Merrell P2 shoes purchased in approximately 2000 rated -10 degrees. A cross between a PAC boot and a hiking shoe. Was wearing them today while building an addition on my home. The Polarand Rove Winter boots arrived on time, flew out of the box and onto my feet for a test drive. First off, Merrell shoes always fit my feet perfectly, never had a miscue there. Secondly, the active heat insole sent a wave of warmth up through the soles of my feet, and made them feel at home like cozy slippers. Thirdly, there is no weight to them and the balance as I moved around outside was just right, and this is right out of the box. If these shoes hold up the way others I own from Merrell, I will highly recommend them to others looking for a nice pair of good-looking shoes to wear around town shopping, eating out, or just shoveling snow, with the water-proof security and warmth you need for an active day in the Idaho Panhandle.

Merrell Polarand Rove
These are well made boots, very warm too with the thinsulate interior, and totally waterproof. But as usual with Merrell, there are size issues. With Hi-Tec,Caterpillar and most other brand name shoes and boots, size 9 fits me fine, but not with Merrell. The advice from other buyers was buy a size bigger than usual,if only it were that easy,9 was too small,so tried a 10,this was too large and too small(yeh, weird I know!)too tight on the toes and too loose around the ankle, and this was exactly my experience with a previous pair of Merrell shoes.Ended up keeping the size 10,and now I have replaced the insoles for some better ones,I think they will be ok,did not like the supplied insoles.

What a great winter boot
What a great winter boot. The only issue keeping form giving it five stars, is that I had to return it, as the inside sole detached itself, and would wander all over the place while walking with the boot. This caused some discomfort.Merrell warranty support has been great, and is currently in the process of replacing my boots.

Way too small
Much smaller than anticipated. I expected they’d be a bit tight but they’re so tight they’re nearly impossible to put on. I typically wear size 13 but these seem to be about a size 11. They’re at least a size smaller than stated. I really like Merrell shoes, have several pairs, but wouldn’t buy a winter boot from them again.

Four Stars
Insoles shift around but other than that a great boot.
