Didn't work out well!
I know it's a good torch. As it couldn't be posted to Ireland I got it sent to my sister in England. She then posted it to me in Ireland. That was weeks ago so I hope the person that robbed it will put up a good review!

Great update but falls short of the competitiin
Great torch. Very impressive as an upgrade to older maglites, but there are better options (eg led lenser police tt)

I saw a few bad reviews on this light but after buying it and using mine, I’ve got to say Maglite is still my name to go to for flash lights.

If you're an old Maglite fan that is wondering if Mag's still got it, you're probably in for a pleasant surprise. We all know Mag used to rule the roost. But somewhere in the 2010s, LED tech was perfected and Maglite fell way behind. I'm the owner of an older SureFire G2X and a Fenix E20. And yet I love my Mag XL50. Partly, I admit, I just love seeing that old Mag inscription around the bezel—the cat logo and "Ontario, CA, USA" (just 35 minutes from where I now live). Don't worry. It's not all nostalgia. Here's what else I love: - Form factor. The 3 AAA design gives this light a great barrel diameter and length for a fist-grab. It's easily stowable and packable, but not so small you'll lose it in the bottom of your satchel or ruck sack. - Great feel with that knurled aluminum chasis Mag made famous. It sill feels like a Mag. Solid and grippable. - High and low modes at 200lm and 40lm respectively. Click on for high, double-click on for low. Simple. No nonsense like strobe or S.O.S. Just high or low. The low mode is great for a lot of things, like close up work (reading, changing a tire in the dark, etc.), and at 20% power really preserves battery life. The high mode is bright. Quite bright, with good throw. I know there are much brighter lights out there, but for me, 200lm is an ideal brightness. I really don't want over 300lm for everyday use. This is plenty bright for nighttime treks, camping, finding your curcuit breakers, scanning the backyard, whatever. Only rarely is a brighter flashlight called for, so unless you're after straight up lumen bragging rights, this'll do just fine. - Still O-ring sealed for water and dust resistance, just like your dad's Maglite. - Tail standable. The tail switch is recessed so you can stand the flashlight on end. - Optional and reversable pocket clip. You need a the little tool to move or remove the clip, though. The clip also keeps the flashlight from rolling away. - You can get filters from Mag for the lens. This was a deciding factor for me, since I planned to use it in stargazing sessions. I needed the red filter to preserve night vision. - It claimes 6 hours and 45 minutes runtime on high, and 25 hours on low. That's amazing. - And finally, for what it's worth, it's made in the USA. Bottom line: If you are looking for an excellent everyday, multi-purpose flashlight, don't discount the Mag XL50. Without hesitation I give this light 5 stars because it's excellent within the class it claims to be. The batteries have never leaked (anectodally, I use Energizer Max, not Duracell). If you need an 800lm tactical light that uses special high-performance batteries, this is not that. This is simply a bright, solid, easy to use, packable—almost pocketable—general purpose flashlight that has served me well both camping and around the house for about two years now. Update: Well, what do you know? It does have a strobe mode! Anyway, it's not easy to accidentally turn it on, cause I didn't even know about it. Triple-click for strobe. Still a great light.
