Q: Are these shoes roomy enough to accommodate orthopedic inserts?

Not sure how big is your inserts are. But dr sholl foam inserts in mine and it fit fine. But i got a 1/2 bigger shoe size than normal.

Q: I normally wear a 4x width. what is the equivalent for this shoe, x-wide or xx-wide?

I had a pair of 4e but now I have some 6e and I like them better. They were advertised as XX wide. Go for it!

Q: Does it have a stiff wide toebox

My son wears th with a wide foot and he likes the fit especially for the price.

Q: Are the soles removable?

They are glued in but by pulling on it, I am pretty sure the will come right out. I will be adding my own insoles too. Only had these shoes for about a week.
