The Ottoman Empire: A History From Beginning to End Review: An Empire Divided to Mixed Loyalties - Somewhere between 4 and 5 stars I rate this book a pretty good read. The only detraction are the names that might remind one of reading about the genealogies in the Holy Bible. The book is a nice overview of the history of the Ottoman Empire which in the end was doomed to failure, muchly because of the attempts at a multi-cultural society! The Empire had its share of accomplishments but a divided loyalty, losing its distinctly ethnic heritage and the on and off radical Muslim tendencies led to an Empire that lost its way! Even though the Ottoman Empire ended in 1924, some of the Muslim influence remains as it did from its beginnings, sometimes at odds with "Infidels" , sometimes not. Review: Terrible book! - The advertising for this book was completely musleading. It's assertions and presentation if material is purile. Terrible book!

Enjoyable
A easy to read overview of the Ottoman Empire. I like that there are other sources listed for further reading. I found it very enjoyable

Important subject poorly organized and difficult to read.
An important subject because the Ottoman empire affected world history in so many ways over a long period of time. Unfortunately, it is a difficult book to read because of poor sentence structure. The book is also poorly organized in its presentation. After reading it, I still don't know why the empire began and why it ended. The best thing about the book is that it is short.

Best book of the series
Well written, with few grammatical errors (annoying though they are still), this is an introduction to Ottoman development for the average educated American, though uneducated in Middle Eastern-European history. I enjoyed it and may even check out some of the references used. Good job!

I really wanted to learn the background and history of ...
I really wanted to learn the background and history of the Ottoman Empire however I felt every time the author mentioned a book that would be helpful to read it broke my concentration in reading his book. I found this to be very distracting and hard to maintain the story line.

Great review of history
Although I studied some of the Ottoman Empire in world history, this summative an excellent review of the struggles in this area through the centuries and answers so many questions related to problems in Iraq, as well as Turkey and other surrounding countries. Very good reading, highly informative and I gained a much better understanding of the issues in current events.

I like these summarized books, as they can get to the meat of things without being boiled down and that they usually present a further list of books in case one wishes to pursue specific subjects further. I say usually because while the book cites various works throughout its chapters, this is one of the rare examples that a Further Reading section is both mentioned and promised and... it seems the author actually forgot about it...

Too much detail Not interesting Should have been more concise and brief It’s not systematic to read chronological events of the past

There wasn’t that many pages in the book . There weren’t any page numbers either so I think they expect you to read it in one go. Mind you that would only take about an hour for this very thin tome. There were errors in it too so all in all the cover is the only part worth looking at .
