DAW Empire of Silence: The Sun Eater: Book One : Ruocchio, Christopher: desertcart.ae: Books Review: I love this series and am actually reading the Ashes of Man right now. This first book although not the best book in the Sun eater is still good. It just keeps getting better in each book. Thoroughly recommend this series. Review: The book was exceptionally well-written. The world-building, highly detailed descriptions, characters, and plot were all great. However, I think the book is almost too long. The highly detailed descriptions, at times, become overly wordy, creating a pacing problem. Don’t get me wrong; the author’s vivid descriptions and details clearly illustrate his vision. But at one point in a chapter, the tension was high, and the wordiness was excessive. We were in a tense moment, and now wasn’t the time to be describing the armor’s painting details. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for action, not needing more details. Despite this minor issue, I highly recommend the book. It’s a grand space opera with significant inspiration from Dune, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Red Rising. If you enjoy any of those three, you’ll likely love this book. I’ve heard that the subsequent books in the series only get better, and I eagerly anticipate continuing the series. However, due to its length, I’ll need a palate cleanser book or two before diving back in.

Slow paced but a great read with good character and world building. Have already bought the second in the series but may have to have patience if it doesn't speed up. Great prose though.

I enjoyed the world building done by Christopher in this book. He blends beautifully sci-fi, fantasy and mythology themes. If you are an fan of any of these genres this book is a must read for you. Also, the hook in the prologue is one of the best I have read and I was engaged for the entire book. I enjoyed following the life of Hadrian Marlowe!
