And I said unto the world. . . Let there be FIRE!
This is surprisingly substantial in comparison to many Ferro Rod Firestarters. As well as being 4 inches long which allows a decent grip, it is 1 centimetre thick. Feels nice and solid and will last a long time before neeiding to be replaced. The scraper element has a nice plastic tab covering much of it so there is something to get hold of besides bare metal. The paracord lanyard is also longer than I expectd although I have not unwound it. There is a plastic tab that holdes to two ends together to for the lanyar into a loop. It looks as if it can be prised off by depressing a small tab on the side, allowing you to adjust the length of the cord by either cutting or simply weaving together in the same manner as the rest of the cord.In testing it took only a few strikes to remove a strip of the black protective coating on the Ferro rod and a simple strike of the scraper down the exposed metal produced sparks with no problem and little effort. Many of the sparks were large and all were easily directed at the tinder. It will ofcourse take some practice to get a fire lit, but that is no fault of the striker itself and more to do with creating the right condition with the tinder and kindling to catch alight.Overall I am very pleased with this product and can recommend it to anyone.

Very nice
The media could not be loaded. Lots of reviews on rods just showing a fire, all fires look the same however the sparks that these things throw definitely don’t.The order arrived very fast, 3 days before expected.I took off the paracord and replaced it with my own, as there’s a plastic thing on the original that gets in the way for me.You can see in the video the rod and striker work quite well with large sparks. The rod is softer than I was expecting but a good thing as it throws large sparks and allows to create shavings, the striker works just as well or better than a carbide sharpener.

It does what it's supposed to.
It's a firesteel, so there really isn't a lot to go wrong with it. It's nice and chunky and it's got a decent bit of weight to it. You have to remove the paint covering first, just like you have to with any new firesteel, but once you have cleaned it off it strikes really well. I have successfully used it to light fires.

Yep. Makes fire.
I can confirm that this device will start a fire in the woods, given the right conditions. Of course, if the conditions are bad, you might struggle to make fire with a blowtorch, but that's not the fault of the device. It makes a shower of what are obviously extremely hot sparks (don't test it over your carpet). I've found that bone-dry tinder will usually flame on the first strike. If the conditions aren't optimal, though, expect pain. Both the rod and the striker are fiddly to grip. If it's going to take dozens of strikes to get the tinder alight, you're going to get blisters. Using the back of a knife rather than the supplied striker reduces this problem but, of course, finding drier tinder -- if there is any -- will work better. In short, I think this works as well as any device of this type can be expected to.

Effective. Easy to use compared to others I have
Best one I’ve used. It’s marginally softer than others I have which is good as bright and decent white hot slivers come off and are great to act as a base for igniting tinder. I prefer this to the harder forms that you really struggle to get to work and need more rigorous application.

Works a treat
Sooooo much better than my previous rod. Strike it hard enough and you get mega sparks every time.Great value for money and highly recommended!

Absolutely amazed!
Absolutely amazed with the sparks this thing gives off, but then again I have never used one before. Seems like a quality product that will last. I have lit several outdoor fires with it and the sparks have no problem catching if you have dry tinder.

Very easy to use
This 10cm ferro rod and striker is very easy to use. Once you scrape the protective coating off (which serves no real purpose) it works very well to produce a huge burst of easy to direct sparks. The paracord is useful for ensuring the rod and striker are kept together.A good product that works a treat!
