You have to remove one end of the device to use it. This reveals the actual pad were you set the stylus. The instructions don't make that clear. Once that's done, the device works like a charm.

Great product. Extremely accurate and affordable

I give 4/5 instead of 5 because my version of this is quite difficult to use. Let me explain. The removable plastic sheath that protects the actual scale which makes contact with the style is very difficult to remove. It fits too snug, to the point it take great force to remove it. Once off however, the scale is a gem.. works great.

This stylus gauge was very easy to use. When I checked the force on my Ortofon 2M Black stylus, I found it was at 1.76 grams, when I wanted it about 1.6. I had set the tracking force the week prior with an older gauge but that one didn't have the 5g weight to verify it's accuracy, which is why I ordered a new one. The orange background was very easy to read as well. I read on some reviews that the older gauge was harder to read but this wasn't a problem here. My only issue was that the cover for the stylus was on very tight. I kept pulling it and finally got it off without damaging the gauge itself, but it could have been a bit looser. Not a huge problem unless the gauge did get damaged which luckily it didn't.

My only complaint (and it is so minor that I didn't take a way ANY stars) is that the cover is a little hard to pull off before use. I think it will "loosen up" with usage, but even if it doesn't, this is a great product at a great price. Like I said, a VERY minor quibble ; ) I have been using a Shure mechanical gauge for twenty plus years: this is more accurate and a lot less finicky. Nice storage case, too!

Excellent product! The tonearm stylus weight scale is high quality, accurate, and well-made. It arrived quickly and was carefully packaged. Very pleased with the purchase — works perfectly for setting tracking force with precision. Highly recommend!

I wanted a stylus force gauge to make calibrating my tonearm easier and picked this one because I liked the orange colorway and it was cheap. Big mistake! This thing is absolute junk; the only quality here is the CR2032 battery included, which I guess you could use to resuscitate and old motherboard if you wanted. The protective scale cover and battery cover are incredibly tight and take great force to open--I had to open the battery cover with my teeth. The scale measures incorrectly (about half to two thirds of the actual value) unless calibrated with the included weight every time it is used. The value when nothing is on kept wandering between -0.1g and +0.1g even if you repeatedly press the tare button to reset it. But worst of all is the hinge-like (but not an actual hinge) connection between the scale assembly and the main body of the device, which is absurdly fragile and bends at the slightest touch. Attempting--very delicately!--to bend it back caused it to snap instantly, rendering the device useless. Do not buy this! Get a traditional analog gauge from a reputable company like Shure that measures accurately and won't break if you look at it funny!

It’s works well for the price point.

I used the scale to adjust the counterweight position after changing cartridge on my Rega Planar 1. The recommended force 2 g is approx. in the middle of rhe range 0-5 g. The surface where the needle is put is good for the purpose and the height is correct.
