It's Signing Time

We bought this for our 2yr old daughter as when she seen singing hands on something special she tried to do all the signing. We replayed it on iplayer and she wanted to watch it "again Daddy", so we visited thier youtube page for more songs to do and have more fun. After she asked repeatedly for it on every day we went and bought it. Its great to learn and also might serve a porpose one day for any of us. It has a natural learning method through singing and signing and the kids just do what they do when they learn... copy it! She has it on her PSP so when we are out and want to do anything we put it on and the world stops. She loves this DVD and so do we, we do all the actions now to all the songs. When we read a book and I say a word or she sees a picture of a rainbow rabbit etc, she signs it!! I recomend this to everyone as its learning something new and you dont even realise it.

My son has Sotos syndrome and is nonverbal. We have been learning Makaton signing for some time now and this DVD is brilliant. I have caught my son trying to copy the odd sign and I am hoping in time to come he will be able to sign along fluently. He has just started a preschool and they are looking to perchase a copy to learn and sign along with my son. His understanding is currently limited as is generally about 1 tra old developmentally and except his speech and language which is about level with a 6/7 month old. So I hope that gives you some idea of the suitability if you are in doubt if to purchase or not. My son does love singing though also so this I believe has aided the benefit he has gained from watching this DVD.

My son and I attend classes, so this DVD is a great refresher, and I have picked up additional signs from watching it. It captures my sons attention (8 months), and he enjoys the songs.The DVD is slightly outdated / old fashioned (very 1980s) and the camera is sometimes moving around the room of parents and babies, meaning you miss the signs, which is annoying. The presenters also move quickly. It would be useful if there was a recap of each sign.

I am an SEN teacher teaching a class of nine children with severe autism t a school in west London. I use this DVD, along with the three others (Singing Time 1, Singing Time 2, Christmas DVD), during quiet times. While this is playing the children sit ad focus very well and some find the songs very calming. All of my children love these DVDs and some are more vocal than before as a direct result of learning these songs (single words from the songs as well as whole lines and signs). Excellent value for the gains that can be made. Highly recommended. Also suitable for toddlers and very young children, not just for those with disabilities. Worth every penny!

Our daughter is 21 months and not yet talking - so we were recommended to help her with some makaton. She loves this DVD - it is pacey, fun and catchy and has taught me loads of signs to use through the day with her (please, thank you, more, mummy, daddy, eat - and a lot more). We usually sit and watch together and I help her sign... But it is also about the only thing that will occupy her for long enough for me to cook dinner. The only feedback for improvement I would give is that in editing it would be good to show more close up pictures of the thing (e.g. Car) in conjunction with a close up of the sign. But great fun, educational and worth buying.

All I can say is if you want a fantastic DVD that both you and your children will enjoy and learn makaton from then BUY IT! It has refreshing new songs on as well as ones you'll know. It shows children of all abilities and everyone seems genuinely happy and enjoying the songs and signing just like my family are when my son puts it on which is almost every day and we have had it for over a year. We also have the other singing hands DVD's and I would recommend you buy them all so you can alternate like we do.Great stuff - singing hands please make another with more new songs for us all to learn!
