The more water you use, the easier to install

I live in an old house with single-pane windows. This summer, the heat coming in them has been awful. I've used this film in previous apartments we've lived in and it's always worked well, decreasing the temperature anywhere between 5-10 degrees. It's doing the same in this old house. I'm in the process of completing a sunroom & a bedroom. You can see the difference between the filmed panels and the non-filmed panels. It does decrease the lighting in the room, but to have a livable space is worth it.The trick to using is to clean the windows really well first, then take measurements of the panels, and cut them. I usually try to leave about a 1/4" extra that I'll have to cut off. Then peel off the backing, spray lots of water on the window and the back of the film. Squeegee it to get out all of the bubbles. (Note: So there are no streaks on the film, use a squeegee with a soft cloth over it. It truly helps.) Once the bubbles are gone, then use a really SHARP box cutter, or similar type tool to cut around the edges. Use a metal or plastic ruler or similar to help get a good straight edge. Once all done, squeegee out any last bubbles. This works best on newer windows, maybe with an aluminum or hard plastic frame to get a good edge cut. My windows are old. Really old. Not exactly smooth, and have wood frames that have been painted multiple times through the years so I can't get the best, most even cut that I should be able to. I can't get out all of the bubbles, either, but those are mainly on the edges. Overall I'm very happy with the product since I've used it so often throughout the years and know what it can do. Will definitely buy again as many times as I need to cover all my windows.(Pictures above show a bedroom with the top panels with the film on, and the lower windows without. I'm waiting on another shipment to finish up the rest of the windows. Note: the exterior window and the storm windows are dirty. We'll need to get a professional out to clean them at some point.)

Exactly what I was Looking for

I bought them initially for my 2yr olds room. That way it will stay darker (I got the black/silver) for when he naps. He was pulling the shades down and I didn’t want him hurting himself or breaking the shades.“Install”It is very simple to do. It is tedious making sure you get it perfect. It was fun to do as well. It came with a small spray bottle, razor and squeegee. I suggest using a ruler when cutting excess off after putting it on the window, that way it doesn’t cut away from the edge. I also suggest cutting as much extra that you know you won’t need before sticking It to the window and before peeling the plastic off the back. If not it could stick to itself and potentially ruin it because it’s impossibly hard to unstick from itself. Also spray it with the baby soap and water mix as soon as you peel it so you can prevent it from sticking to itself while applying. I’d leave like a half inch or an extra inch. Anything more makes it so much harder.I also ended up doing my entry way side door windows and the small windows on my door for more privacy and help with the amount of light that comes in.Does a great job, reasonably priced! And looks good when you do it even remotely decent.

Works as Expected ... But

The product is basically pretty easy to install. However, like all "cling" products of this type, it is nearly impossible to get out every bubble. Having said that, the bubbles do not distract too much from the aesthetic look outside and do not affect the inside view at all. During daylight (not at night), the film blocks out the view from the outside while allowing a clear view from the inside. These products tend to be fairly expensive but, if they do the trick for you (privacy and heat reduction), they are worth the price. My biggest complaint is that the sizes (width and length) offered result in a Lot of Film Waste (and therefore money). There should be more size options available for each color (i.e. silver/silver, black/silver, etc.) I plan to buy more but might have to find another seller that has more in stock and more sizes available.

Works for glare

So I don't really care about "unsightly splices" I just needed something to reduce the glare from the sunlight through my livingroom window directly onto my TV. It definitely does the job, is it perfect? No, but short of blackout curtains this is a great option. As you can see from my photo the smaller size I bought wasn't nearly enough for the window in question, I've ordered a second roll to cover the other half but you can clearly see the difference between the two windows. Outside it's a mirror surface, inside a dark gray color. Installation was simple enough, would have been easier with a second person for sure. Use lots of water and it's a very easy job to squeegee out all the air/water bubbles for a lovely finish. Finally I can have the blinds open and get some actual sunlight without everyone complaining about the glare constantly or worrying about people looking in during the daytime. It is definitely more translucent t at night when there's light inside and not out.

full of blemishes off the roll

If you intend to look through the window you are going to film, don't buy this film. The film is not taped to the roll, so it just un rolls as soon as you remove the plastic, making it harder to measure and cut. It is very poor quality. The peel off layer is thicker than the film. I regret having moved furniture, taken down curtains, and then opened this product. I should have opened it first. A day wasted. If you want a quality finished product, at least go to a local tint place and buy your tint. This is no easier to work with than adhesive tint, and applies the same. If you aren't practiced at tinting, I suggest you have a professional do the job, if the finished look is important to you.
