Is there a difference between the brass and silver

The research I did said that all trumpets start the same. brass trumpets have a clear lacquer finish while the silver has a thicker plating over the brass. some people believe that the silver has a higher tone because of the plating. I believe the main difference is the silver stands out from the brass trumpets.
