I still sleep awfully on planes but this is the best type I've found. The thing that keeps me from sleeping is head-nodding and I do not understand why U-shaped airplane pillows (the default ones that all passengers have) exist. I wish this were taller as I have to stack things between it and the tray table. The more I'm hunched, the more I swallow air and have to burp every 10 minutes. So this isn't perfect and I still sleep terribly on planes but it's pretty compact and it gives me the best shot at *some* sleep. Until something better is invented for head-nodders, this gets the top rating because it's the best I know of. By the way, the smell doesn't bother me because I don't remember it. There are many other brands clearly made from the same mold in the same factory but this is the one I've got so I can vouch for it.

Excellent and affordable

This is more expensive than most of this type but it has been air tight and I have not smell any fumes which makes it superoir to thos cheaper ones I saw reviewed. It has no instructions so here is tip. It has a black and clear part. Pu tth eblacl part in the oinflation hole before you try to inflate it. This is valve to make it much easier to inflate. Teh clear stop goes over that to make a good seal. I have used it twice in long flights. It worked better than anything I have tried before but I did not get much sleep with it. It is a bit short for me an even with airline supplied pillow and blanket between it and the tray table I could use more height. I will probably buy a ring neck pillow to add to it for my next long haul red-eye. It comes with two pair of ear plugs and a blindfold. The ear plugs did nothing for me but the pillow as compatible with my over ear noise cancelling headphones which work well for me. In its bag it's bulky but I was able to attach it to straps on my carry on pack so it rides outside.

Quality—- quality is great, smooth and durable. Convenience—- it is inflatable/deflatable. Easy to take along with you. Comfortability— I do not recommend this for air travels. Once it is inflated, it becomes bulky and gives no space between your chest and the plane’s seat screen especially if you have an economy ticket. I have a small body built and it gave me this inconvenience how much more for people who love beers and carbohydrates. Lol. I wish this product comes in different sizes. I am ditching this on my next flight and use my neck pillow instead.
