Great value for money and a wonderful present for adults ...
What can I really say other than a geographer who has never experienced Chris Hadfield's views of our planet. Superb photographs and an amusing text. Great value for money and a wonderful present for adults and children alike. Something quite different from NASA aerial/space shots. Buy it soon before it is gone or as Hadfield would ',I snapped it before I moved on!'

The Earth like you’ve never seen it!
This book contains some 120 photographs of places on the earth taken from the International Space Station by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. Hadfield took about 45,000 images during his flight, so this is a fairly small, but nevertheless fascinating, sample. Looking at these images, one is often amazed that the photos are of the earth. It shows a level of detail that is absent from maps. There are quite a few cases when the photos look like abstract art and they can be beautiful, curious and strange in various measures. This also applies to the ones showing the effects of human habitation, but also including, in at least one case, a disturbing one, namely a graphic portrayal of the consequences of deforestation in Madagascar (pp. 22-23). Although we are now accustomed to seeing imagery taken from space, the nice thing about this collection is that they are all taken by human hand, not robotically from an Earth observation satellite. Hadfield’s informative comments on the photos are brief, since this is primarily a book of images. I have one remark for those of us, like me, who find their knowledge of geography challenged. It is not, in general, straightforward, to relate the images to a corresponding classical atlas view of each location. The book contains a low-resolution world map showing the locations of the places in the photos, but this is too coarse to permit easy reference comparison with an atlas. There is another aspect to this, namely, that the orientation or, more precisely, projection of the ISS photos is linked to the flight path, so a certain amount of rotation of each image might be needed to get a match with the corresponding conventional map representation. So all the more need to be sure you’re looking in the right part of the map. It follows that it would have been useful to have precise latitude and longitude coordinates for each photo, suitable for use for look up in, say, Google Maps or the Times Atlas of the World. But don’t let this put you off the book, which is worth buying for the beautiful photos alone. I can heartily recommend this book.

... - so at first you think - I've seen better, clearer
Fascinating compilation of pictures taken by Chris - so at first you think - I've seen better, clearer, where they have been deliberately shot by the space station but... this is what Chris saw and took the photographs himself (and he has an eye, undeniably) and the more you immerse yourself in them the most you both see and realise that these are a testimony to his experience on the shuttle and what he saw and now you get to see his memories as he does... that is a privilege indeed...

Truly amazing book. A perfect size to grab and look ...
Truly amazing book. A perfect size to grab and look at. Photos aren't of the highest resolution on some pages but when you think how far away these were taken it really doesn't matter. These pictures show how amazing this planet really is and the lovely colours and shapes that are scattered around. This has sparked questions from my 5 year old and for this I can only thank Chris Hadfield. A perfect Christmas present for someone or even yourself.

Its a fact that most of us will never be able to travel in space but books like this give you an idea of the wonderful variety .
A fascinating book with some very unusual photographs taken from the space station of various parts of the world Chris Hadfield flew over. Its a fact that most of us will never be able to travel in space but books like this give you an idea of the wonderful variety of landscapes and colours found while bombing around the globe at a phenomenal speed. Well worth the purchase.

The grandeur of the photographs and what they teach us.
Once the size of the pictures had been fitted on one’s screen, they were amazing to appreciate. Beautiful. I was looking at them for a project about cosmic matters and getting an overview of Earth. It would best be used as a coffee table book, always available to look at on a regular basis. The

I love the way author presented his works. So grateful to have such works. Every images taught me recollect my thoughts and experience different things; How feeble we actually are; How drastically we're changing the geography of our beautiful home; And in some places, how blessed we're to get such views to look at our Pale Blue dot. Gave me a lot of historical information as well like 28,000 year old civilization in Australia. Not too much technical though and that's why I feel like everyone can enjoy the work and admire our only home, we've got so far. "You're here, we all are, for life. Let's get to know the place a little better."

Excelent. Nice information about our home, the planet Earth. The selection of amazing photos is a gift for those who love to see the places from above!
