We use paper plates for most of our meals, as it's only two adults in the household and it takes too long to get enough dishes to fill up a dishwasher (or so I say to myself, so I have to wash less dishes haha). I have now tried several brands of these compostable plates. Although these are not my favorite (they're just a tad bit thinner), they work very well. The surface of compostable plates seems/is more porous than the plates we normally use, so I was concerned that they would soak up anything you put on them, and turn meals into gross, soggy messes. Well, I was wrong. These plates feel very solid, much more solid than the paper plates we've been using for years. The color and material is something to get used to, but after a couple of uses, that should be no problem. As others have mentioned, these don't soak up the food that's put in them. I'm not sure what I'd have to put in them and for how long for them to become soggy, but so far it hasn't happened to us. It's almost like they repel moisture somehow, because they look almost clean when we're done using them. At $25+ for the pack (at the time of this review), price per plate is much, much more expensive than even the name brand paper plates (150 of 10" plates for about $16 or 100 of 8.5" for about $6), so I don't see myself buying these regularly. However, if you're eco-conscious and the price isn't a factor for you, then these would be a good buy. :)

I like plates that can just be tossed into the compost piles with the other food scraps. These have that quality, but could be sturdier. They can require doubling up when loaded to avoid a mess. A very nice thing about having no coating is that they are microwaveable. As long as you take into account doubling up in the price, I think they are a good purchase.
