Survey of Accounting (Accounting I)

This book is meant to be used in conjunction with Cengage. The figures that are shown throughout the book are exactly the same as those used in the lecture. I rented the hard copy book through Amazon and am glad I didn't buy it outright.The book introduces basic accounting practices and procedures--and then completely loses the reader by referencing a group of financial statements and explaining multiple steps simultaneously. The statements are color coded, which may work for some people, but for me it is just a distraction. The Cengage homework problems do not use the same color coding, so this adds another layer of processing for you.This book should have focused more on the absolute basics, taking one step at a time, with videos provided on the Cengage site to step through what is happening on each statement and how that carries over to the next one. Thankfully this is how our instructor teaches the course.To add more frustration, the content within chapters is not arranged in a logical order. The author routinely introduces a concept, states "will be covered later in the chapter/book," and then continues to use the concept in explaining follow on concepts before finally looping back around.If I get hung up on a concept, I don't even bother trying to decipher it from this book. I just go to investopedia and usually find a much clearer and more in depth explanation there.

The book is what it is...a textbook. I liked the layout of the topics and it did not jump around too much. However, I found a lot of redundancy and repeated definitions mixed in with unnecessary stories about different companies. I was hoping to see more examples, explanations, and better definitions.

Excellent condition and worth the price. Just finished two courses with it. Won’t be a keeper though since the overall study is basics

Despite purchasing a “new” book, it did not come with an access code for the online content.

This is a rental, but i wanted it documented that the spine of the book is damaged so when I return it, there is no issue and I’m not held accountable. I will try to take care of it, but with the alien already being damaged, there may be further damage as a result of normal handling.

This digital copy doesn't include text-to-speech (which is helpful for those with learning difficulties). It also has many characters missing in letters throughout the text.

Good book

This is a great book for accounting! It gives a good summary of most of the things you’ll need to know, and is a good reference.
