Deco X50
We have a modern build 3 storey 6 bed town house, the internal walls are all stud and plasterboard. I was using a powerline system to get broadband to the harder to reach places in our house, but it was constantly dropping the signal and having issues. The deco system is much better, solid connection throughout the house. I have replaced the router from our ISP with one of the units and the others are placed one on each floor. It was very easy to set up and all the little dark patches where we used to struggle for signal are gone. The mesh is stable and seamless. I was a bit concerned I would spend £250 and still have issues, but those concerns were completely unfounded. Very happy.

Excellent whole house WiFi device let down a little by inadequate documentation
Each piece of equipment has an installation manual but what is lacking is an overall guide "How to get Whole house Wifi using TP-Link Deco". So let me explain.... There are four ways of interconnecting these units (providing 'backhaul'):- (1) WiFi (but with some loss of performance) (2) Wired, using Cat 5 or 6 cable, as a line ending at your internet provider's SoHo router. This will give excellent performance and might or might not suit your house or flat. (3) Wired, using Cat 5 or 6 cable, in a star either to your internet provider's SoHo router or to an intermediate network switch. (4) Any combination of the above methods. I used method (3), fanning out from an 8-port, 2.5Gb switch that in turn is connected to my SoHo router. A 1Gb switch would be adequate in most cases however. You can power each Deco X50 by either (a) Using the mains adapter (b) Using a power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switch or or injector. I used both methods depending on the location of the device. It will be helpful to provide a WPA pairing button to make it easy to establish a link with a printer or TV. This brings us to the next problem which is that TP-Link doesn't provide a guide to what works with what. I used injectors from one of TP-Link's other product familes. Please be aware that not all PoE switches and injectors can supply 15W or for that matter operate at 2.5Gb.

Nearly seamless transition from our old mesh system
First impressions are very positive. I set the network name and password to be the same as my old system and all my stuff connected (and there are some I think I would need external assistance to change if it didn't - e.g our heat pump, battery and solar cell systems) Units are a little bigger than I hoped and not overly attractive, but functionality seems good so far. The app walks you through initial setup which was pretty simple. Some items come up with strange names, e.g. "espressif" is a Ocean Digital Radio. App can show all devices that have connected and shows the current connections to each node. I get a ping when anything new joins the network. I've got a "medium" signal in the garage where the solar and battery wifi are, and a 'strong' signal in the summer house (approx 30m from nearest node) You can sort the client list in six ways - e.g ip address, or 2.5GHz vs 5GHz connection If you have other TP-Link devices you can control them from the Deco app - I've connected a smart plug up - again v simple.

I was skeptical at first but I must say this WiFi product delivers as advertised. Easy to install and requires zero management. Amazing.

I’ve been using it for a few months and it easily gives full wifi signal throughout the house (if you set them up in right locations). It was easy to setup when you follow the instructions through the app. Like the fact that you can setup VPN on them. One drawback is that it doesn’t tell you anything about downstream/upstream usage whereas my Netgear previously had this option. 2.5 Gbps POE ethernets are great plus.
