Quality Lego product
These are the usual high Lego standard that we expect. Reasonable price but like many other reviews it is a shame you cannot buy the straight road on its own. I would buy 2 or 3 of these if they did so a street scene or high street could be built. Regardless my 8 year old loves them!!

Essential for a town layout
Bought 4 sets of these towards making a small Lego town. I was previously in a dilemma as to whether to buy some more vintage tiles, but eventually decided on these as it is a struggle to fit the newer lego city vehicles on the older type tiles from the late '70's( I still have my own ), without catching on buildings or knocking over pedestrians! . We will have to compromise on the building space, so I guess it means we will have to be more creative with the layout, and what really counts is playability for my children. Not a bad price for these tiles, currently £7.50, and easily obtainable on amazon. The colour is a good match with the dark grey tiles that come with the police/fire sets. I don't have a problem with the shade as it is a realistic tarmac colour. This review also appears on Lego 7281: Curve and T-Junction.

My nephew loved this!
Great addition to his collection. Quite expensive but does the job and fits with the rest of his kit.

Too much "road" and not enough "studs"!
Not a lot to say about 2x base plates so I'll keep this review brief and to the point! The "build" quality is to the usual high standard that you would expect from the ever-green LEGO brand, so no problems there (I recall as a child my brother and I managed to bend a base plate and damage it beyond repair... but I think we were non-typical and overly-aggressive kids when it came to toy abuse..!) Personally, I'd have liked to have seen more than the one colour on the base pieces - they are literally just white ink on the grey plastic (a dash of yellow for example would have made them more "realistic", but never mind..) My key issue with this particular set is the limited number of LEGO "studs" present on each base piece - and in particular the "crossroads" board (which has hardly any at all). Now, due to the nature of such a junction there can never be many I guess... but even so I think these would be better value (and more versatile..) if the "road" parts were narrower - allowing for more "studs" (to connect LEGO people and bricks to..) either side. So only three stars I'm afraid. Finally, despite there being TWO bases in these packs, I don't find it particularly good value either - but at least amazon's free P+P was there to soften the blow.. Summary: Pretty much an essential purchase for any LEGO city project... but a little lacking overall. John. December, 2009.

Improving our Lego cities transport facilities
Straight road plates. We ordered a few of them and combine with the curved road parts. The street layout is then used either by our daughter for her Friends city’s, or by our son to combine with his Lego City set up, train tracks or Ninjago. So its actually quite versatile. Personally I would have preferred two straight roads in each set rather than the crossing. Hence the 4 star rating. As always with Lego the quality is great and the plates are very durable.

good purchase
Although a good number of boards are needed to create a decent layout for a town, they give a great chance for hours of fun and can also be used as small base boards or just a layout for ordinary cars. It's a pity that curves and straights are not sold separately as packs of same type boards. You generally need to buy in multiples of 2 packs. Just regretting the fact that I didn't hold on to my son's collection now my grandson is into Lego!

Great items, however...
It's a great item, however for the price I wish Lego would add more colours or features such as drains. Also the roads on these new baseplates are slightly larger than the old ones so you don't get as many studs for building as you used to. However still the great same Lego quality.

Great
My 6 year old son want this so much for Xmas, it is great but expensive so grandparents are all buying bits as well to make a good road. He will be chuffed when he gets it though.
