Don't buy this product in India
Don't buy this product in India. This product needs an adapter and seller doesn't provide. Seller have no clue how to connect this product using wired option. He forces to use battery option, and shared numerous videos based out of US (110V) instead of India (240V). When I wanted to return the product, Amazon raised query with Seller (as its third party) even after I told that already contacted Seller and he is of no use. And they assure me to return after 48 hrs in spite of return date passed, as I raised the return request before the last day of return. Now Amazon is not helping to return as well.

Device was having issues. And both Amazon and the seller couldn’t have behaved any worst than this. Extremely disappointed with the level of service I received while activating the warranty return…

Well designed package. I am not sure this is designed intention to fit narrow door frame or not. Those who have storm door might know that storm door frame will cover part of the original door frame. That leaves narrow door frame for install video door frame especially wired doorbell (to install the video door over the existing wired doorbell). This version of Google/Nest wired video door bell has a bracket at the back which is narrow enough to install comfortably with door frame of 1.3 inches width. The back of the doorbell itself has round chamfer shape around the edges and raised up a bit by the metal back bracket make good clearance away from storm door frame that overhang on to the original door frame. Nice. I have no issue installed it with storm door. It slightly off but does not too bad at all. There is no need for additional shim or other 3rd party base plate needed. I have been looking for a video doorbell that narrow enough to fit and this one fits perfectly. From functionality standpoint, the door bell detects person, package or motion well. It is not perfect but sufficient. It does not distinguish depth for person or motion. If detection frame/zone you created covers certain area of the screen (the app. allows you to define different zones) any things in that zone will be detected regardless of how far the object is. It would be nice if it offers "depth" for detection as well. I am not sure other brands do have this feature or not. One of my zone, will detect people at the mailbox near the street from the front door from time to time. I like the feature that application can detect present of a package or absence of the previously detected package. Nice touch. It is easy to install and setup. Should be straight forward to setup and help can be reached on line within the app. as well. That is also good.

I have had a Nest Hello doorbell for a few years, but recently it developed the symptom that my indoor electronic chime would only sound two notes, no matter what I set the duration to in the Nest app. The camera itself was working well, though the field of view didn't extend as far down as I would like. I also noticed that the plastic on the faceplate was blistering, so I decided to replace it with the Gen 2 Wired. The Gen 2 is a bit taller than the Hello (the battery version is even taller), which meant that the spacer I had 3D printed to bring it past the door molding needed to be redone. Luckily, the screw holes are the same distance apart. Installing was straightforward, and I used the included 20-degree wedge plus the printed spacer. Due to the way the Gen 2 mounts, I had to swap out the #10 long screws I had used for some thinner ones, as the screw heads blocked the camera from mounting properly. The Google Home app leads you through the install, but the URL shown for a web video leads to the old Nest Hello instructions! The chime adapter, while it looks like that of the Hello, is different and connects in parallel to the chime wires rather than in series. Once installed, I was delighted that the indoor chime worked properly again. I was also happy to see that the vertical field of view was considerably taller than that of the Hello, so that I could see almost all of my front steps without a wedge angling down. Image quality is better than the Hello, and at night the picture is still in color! Another advantage I had not anticipated is that I get notifications of people at the door almost instantaneously, whereas with the Nest Hello it was typically 20-30 seconds later. I attribute this to the local processing of images, rather than sending them to the cloud for recognition. Right now, my major gripe is that there is not a fully functional web interface, unlike the older camera. There is a beta interface, but it shows a live view only and tends to crash a lot. I hope this gets improved. The Google Home app isn't bad, but I like to use a web browser on my PC. A minor gripe is that email notification is no longer available, just push notifications from the app.

Updated Review I was disappointed to learn this product does not integrate well with 2 of my Google TVs and an older Chromecast device on another. There are no notifications when the doorbell is pressed. If I ask my TV to display the front door camera, it recognizes the command and doorbell, and indicates it is streaming the device. It looks like it is connecting, but instead of the camera feed, it displays a camera icon with a slash through it. You can see it in one of the images I posted. I can still access the camera by using the Google Home app on the TV, it will pull it up that way, so it’s not the end of the world. Just pretty disappointing. Otherwise, it’s truly a nice camera. I adjusted the zones to the point where I eliminated false positive notifications and only get notified now exactly when, how and where I want. Read my original review for more information. Original Review Very simple to install. The mounting plate lined up perfectly with my regular doorbell which was an unexpected bonus. I just swapped out the 2 wires and was done, not even 5 minutes. I have google speakers throughout my house, and a couple of Google TVs. I do use the Google Eco System but also have Alexa products. I looked at differences between this product and Ring, watched and read plenty of reviews, and landed on this wired product. I did not want to be concerned with batteries. I have an old house, wasn’t sure if the transformer had the power for this but I took a chance and it worked out. I did install the chime module that comes with it, and that too was simple to install in my electronic door bell. Two wires as well, you just have to make sure you are connecting the chime to the right place, meaning front or back door bell. The app walks you through it and explains everything you need to do. Anyone can install this if you’re of sound mind and body. The best part of this are the zones you can setup for notification and the type of notification. I only needed 2 zones, one for people and one for packages. Anything outside of those two zones will record people but not alert me. You can choose and select options on when and what you want to get notified for. It has very good, crisp and clear video images. I included images of what livestream looks like using the Google Home app, some of the events it captured, the 2 zones I created, and not but capture, which is also high quality but unlike daytime, night time is black and white. After 1 day of use, I can honestly say I think this is a fantastic product. I received notification that a package was left, and to my surprise, after I retrieved it, there was a notification on my phone that the package was missing. Of course it captured me retrieving it, but I thought that was fantastic and didn’t recall reading about that feature or seeing it in reviews. Of course I could have just missed it but it’s nice to know you can go back and see porch pirates that are out there. Earlier I mentioned I have google speakers throughout the house. I chose which ones to alert when the doorbell is pressed. There are a lot of options and customization. I highly recommend this product, well worth the $99 deal I got on n Amazon for a wired 2nd Gen doorbell.

Firstly, it is one of the better looking doorbell cams of all the brands in my opinion, which is one of our reasons for buying. This specific gen build is clean, elegant and seemingly durable. The video quality is good for its limited resolution, and is plenty sharp for cell phone screen sized viewing. If you have it tied into larger displays, you may start to notice the resolution limitations. Don't expect to read license plates, or nearby text. The 2nd reason for buying was the stated non-requirement for subscription to see short-term recorded clips. You will need the subscription for 24hr recording and access to view clips from their cloud. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, it does NOT allow for your own local recording. For my use case, it is not a big deal, but I do wish it had the option for local recording to onboard memory. Sadly, most companies are doing away with this capability purely out of greed to force users to pay them a perpetual fee. I refuse to pay service fees (i.e. rent) for the equipment that I purchase. So the 3hr clip recording is fine for now. So I will live with this limitation for now. I have a camera system around the house that is NOT google, and DOES allow local recording 24/7 so I am good. But all features that this product includes has been fantastic so far. I have a smart home system built upon the Google Home ecosystem, so this product integrated very well. Doorbell usage gets announce via the existing doorbell chime without issue, but more importantly it announces on all the google home mini speakers throughout the house, and even on-screen my home PC/Cellphone. This is important because I work from home usually, with headphones on, and in the past sometimes wouldn't hear the doorbell. On top of which I often have my phone on silent to not distract me too much. But doorbell, sometimes can be important, so all these other notification methods are very welcome in my use case. Great product with your typical features blocked by subscription, but for what you pay upfront for, no sub needed!
