Firstly, The planter works well in garden soil.... and certainly you have to rough up the surface first with a trowel, but it takes all the work out of planting. I had a lot of daff bulbs to plant in a grassed lawn area, and the planter doe not work through grass, so you have to life up a slice of the top matted layer of grass first with a shovel or trowel, like a lid on a box, and then use the planter in the soil underneath. Great work and I am very happy with it. Much sturdier than previous aluminium one which bent and broke after the first challenge.

Top item although it took me a while to work out how to use it lol. Ideal for soil not so good on thick Lawn or Turf . I found it useful when planting 50 odd bulbs in soil. I always used a divver to plant my Bulbs but I think it left an air pocket at the bottom of the hole. This tool takes out an even flat based "plug" that you can drop back in when the Bulb is planted.

Good quality and sturdy

Easy to use if you have good soil. Quite sturdy but not a massive time saving gadget for me, as some areas in my garden the soil is heavy clay.

Amazingly easy to use

Well made but even in v wet low to hedium clay soil it struggles. Have to put a lot of force down on it and jiggle it left and right, manage to get a bit of soil 1inch out then do bit more and hopefully get hug more than 1inch. and carry on until get full 10cm depth required for bulbs. Only once or twice in slightly softer more crumbly soil I got 6inch max out of soil. Then the soil regardless gets stuck and have to bang it a lot to get the soil out. Or hit with a small shovel/ spade. Only real way I could get 10inch out of the soil in one go is to use a proper long handle bulb planter or hole digger. This isn't easy to use but it can just about do the job in soil which is clayish. If you have good quality crumbly soil it'll do what it is designed for. It can't really cope v well with clay. Would I buy again? Probably not. But it does make it slightly easier than simply digging.
