A Smart Girl's Guide: Getting It Together: How to Organize Your Space, Your Stuff, Your Time-And Your Life (American Girl(r) Wellbeing) : Falligant, Erin, Vaughan, Brenna: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Some solid advice provided in a lovely, empathetic way. - These are a good set of books for girls growing up and needing some expert (but not bossy parent) advice. WE have 3 of these now, and whilst my 10YO and 8YO both say they've never read them for fear of admitting a problem, I've found them both secretly absorbed on several occasions. An important parenting thing for me. Sometimes not forcing the issue and providing the assistance is enough. My eldest is somewhat dyspraxic and struggles with self organisation. For those who know the experience, it can be frustrating from a parents perspective. It's been great to see her flushing out her interpretation of the tips and coping mechanisms in the book. She's starting to see the benefit of being organised for herself, and that is invaluable for us. The content is set out in a plain, well illustrated way that takes you through the problem, why it happens, how to manage it, and ways to cope. Some solid advice provided in a lovely, empathetic way. It wasn't till they arrived and I was perusing that I realised these books were published by American Girl. If you have girls, they are the holy grail of 18 inch dolls. We have the cheaper version in our house BUT importantly that link made sure that my daughters trusted the content that little bit more. Review: Worth every penny - Brilliantly written. A wonderful guide to help children be organised and gives realiatic strategies. Teaches useful lifeskills which help set a good foundation for life. Also a good book to talk through with boys as advice on decluttering and organisation is applicable to all young people. As long as they can see past the title! The advice it self is good.

Really helped my disorganized daughter (11)
Obviously American, but I bought it for my daughter to help her manage her room in particular. She refuses help so I needed her to think about it for herself and decide to sort it out. Slow progress but she is now telling me the things I have been trying to tell her! "I have too much stuff in my room Mum, so I'm going to clear some things out into 3 piles, keep, throw, donate" So it's clearly working.

Useful guide
I bought this for my daughter to help her organise herself for high school. She has other books in this series and the language and tone is much the same. Lots of useful hints and tips.

My daughter is super unmotivated to organize or even tidy her room! She started reading this and it was like magic!! definately recommend this book. She still in the process of doing her room but she’s finally letting go of old toys and wanting a crash organized look. Brilliant.

My daughter has practically memorized this book. Be prepared to help your kid set up the organizational systems included in the book, depending on their age. This book is so helpful that many of the suggestions have actually been incorporated in the rest of the house/family. My 10-year-old needed alot of help setting up and making decisions, but has been able to keep up with her systems wonderfully since she feels invested in it. An older kid, maybe 12 and up, could probably just read this and organize without parental help. It has made a HUGE difference in the whole family for my oldest at least to be mostly independent, I don't have to clean or remind her of stuff or constantly check up on her, the day goes so smoothly. It feels like having another adult helping me instead of a kid I have to do everything for! School and homework are a breeze, I was so excited to help her organize her locker at orientation, knowing she can handle things herself this year. The book is great about explaining WHY in addition to HOW to be organized, so my kid is motivated and understands the connection between being clean and organized and having a good day.
