Can this be used with a regular pc?

Actually, it's probably not a particularly good idea to use a 'NAS' drive in a desktop computer, unless it's part of a 'RAID array'. The 'firmware' on drives like these is specially modified for this type of environment. The most salient of these modifications is what's called TLER (Time Limited Error Recovery) - In the event that one of these drives has trouble reading the data stored on one of its platters, it will simply give up trying and resume its normal duties! This might sound like odd behaviour, and you certainly wouldn't want this in your 'desktop' computer(!), but in a NAS or RAID environment though, it makes perfect sense. One of the other drives would have already returned the data that it's having trouble reading. Also, f it takes too long to respond, the controller would 'drop' the disk from the array causing your whole array to be in a worse condition that it was to start with. Hopefully that all makes sense and will save some unfortunate people from issues by using the wrong type of drives!

What transfer speeds are you getting with this drive? In megabytes

I've got 5 x 4TB ST4000VN000 running off a MegaRAID 9261 hardware raid controller and done a lot of testing with and without the controller and in various RAID configurations. They are OK for home use but in environments you are going to have a lot of writes there performance drops off massively compared to say something like a barracuda. Most home users are going to storing large media files and streaming them to multiple devices over network and its absolutely fine for that and will saturate network before you run out of disk performance. But if you are saying trying to run a database app off one then look elsewhere.

Can anyone confirm for sure that these are fine with a Synology DS718+?

They've been fine with my Synology DS918+

Is it compatible with apple time capsule

Once reformatted to a mac standard itll be fine to use for time capsule
