Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Great book - I am trained in the Montessori method but wanted more ideas on how to use her principles with my own children. I've found the book very useful and quite practical so far in designing and decorating the bedroom for my, yet to arrive, first born. Time will tell whether everything works but based on my experiences with Montessori so far, it's really grounded in science and child development, so with a little patience and effort really seems to have great results. The book is well written and easy to read, and I'd definitely recommend it. Review: An excellent reference book - I cannot recommend this book highly enough to people who are or aren't aware of montessori. Brilliant practical information and examples in relation to all aspects of a baby and young child's environment and its impact on their experiences. I refer back to this book constantly and have also bought copies for my child's grandparents to help them understand why our son doesn't have a cot for example. Buy it - it will open your eyes

easy to read
sometimes I have difficulty in understanding some phrases or technical words when I am reading books in English. But this one is super easy to read and understandable in all ways. Besides the information given is very helpful especially if you have a baby or toddler.

Still great book!
A lot of information can be found in this book. Reads well. We did even imply a couple of ideas which worked well. I would not agree on everything suggested. But I do not have to. Still great book!

A must read for any parent
The book was very informative about the Montessori philosophy. The practical tips made it easy to grasp. I highly recommend it for any parent looking to raise an independent child

Super inteligent book all-in-one
The book is quite hard to read due to very small details it shows. If you are purchasing one book for Montessori and you want deep explanations it is the one.

No Montessori from the start!
I have worked in a Montessori daycare, with children 1yr old to 3 yrs old. I was recommended by my employer to read this book and one other. I cannot speak for all Montessori practitioners, however in my experience, when Montessori methods are tried to be introduced for very young children, teachers easily become too forceful in "encouraging" independence. Children of this age are sometimes interested in being independent and other times need nurturing - and this is to be expected and ok. Also children have different personalities and readiness with independence. I find a very forceful attitude to independence with very young children, as encouraged by this book and others, and practitioners themselves, is counter productive. Having worked in a "normal" daycare setting, I found those children of the same age group to be much more naturally independent as there are no expectations upon them, and they do things at their own pace and readiness. One step forwards, two steps back, etc. Please don't force independence upon children! With my own child, I helped him when he liked and let him do it when he liked. They told me in the daycare that one day at 2.5 yrs, he just dressed himself! And we had great results like this by just taking it easy. All children are different, let them grow at their own pace. Likewise no matter how young you start with toilet training, they can manage some basics early, but when they really "get it" can be quite late. No child is the same when it comes to this. I was concerned with the Montessori methods that i observed because they are all overly procedural and scientific and the child has to follow a clear procedure. This will not suit all personalities and i find it dry and limiting creativity. Children are discouraged from actively exploring toys, and told exactly the procedure that they must follow when they "play?" with the items. Children while they did enjoy the montessori toys and activities often seemed bored and frustrated. I think there is nothing wrong with montessori education, particularly for the over 3yrs old child, however, i do have a problem with exclusive montessori education. They should be encouraged to free play, and find their own solutions on how to engage with play materials. We all know that's how the best inventions are made. Also think twice about putting your very young child into Montessori based care. Ask a lot of questions, especially about their "techniques" to encourage independence. Because children, as we all know are hardly compliant creatures when it comes to will.

Even though I bought this book 2nd hand, it was in perfect condition as though new, only some stamps that show it used to be a library book. The book is very very good. It explains concepts well and gives very practical examples as to how to apply the concepts.

If you, parent that read this book, open yourself for changes, you will be able to recreate your relationship with your baby in a way that you could never imagine. Seen the baby as an individual that doesn't need help, but only guidance to independence will give both of you a relationship based on trust, confidence, friendship and love. Take this opportunity to change yourself and realizing things that you've lived in your own childhood that you now know it wasn't good for you. To recognize that you've suffered and be better than that with your kid will heal you and show you a whole new world of possibilities.

There are so any reasons why I hate this book... 1. Put your newborn baby on a double bed size tatami, hang some things over him, close the door and let him entertain himself for some hours to foster his independence. 2. New mothers are incapable to make the right decision for their babies because they are sleep deprived. They need to be told what to do. 3. Enforce it from day one that your child is not the center of the universe. 4. It’s best to stop breastfeeding after 8-9 months. I would have burnt this book if it wasn’t on my iPad.

I have just started reading it and already found it really informative. I have already read one book on the montessori way of raising a child and am really excited to read this book also. The language is easy to understand.
