Native Forest Organic Peach Slices - Organic Peaches, Canned Peaches in Natural Juice, Sliced Peaches, Peaches Canned Fruit - 15 Ounce (Pack of 6)

I am fond of canned fruit, but sometimes these days my friends ask what is canned fruit and can it be a quick meal? When it's good it can be eaten by itself as a dessert; these pears are in that category and they are very good just out of the can. They can be used a variety of recipes. Most of them are halves, and some have gotten broken, but most pieces look quite pretty if that is a concern for a recipe. I really like making "thickened fruit" that I put over toast, where I take about 3 cans of fruit (can all be the same but I think variety makes it better), put them in a kettle with their juice and 3 large Tablespoons of the granular tapioca, 3 tsp of almond flavoring (or more, per your taste), a splash of lemon juice, and heat on low to medium heat stirring frequently. When you cannot see the tapioca white pieces anymore and it's thickened then it's done (maybe 20 minutes?). This makes enough thickened fruit for 2 or 3 people to put fruit over 2 pieces of toast each. I like to toast bread, put some peanut butter or almond butter on it and ladle this hot fruit over it, and then eat with a fork. Or this fruit could be put over french toast or pancakes of course, but doing it over toast is faster. The thickened fruit keeps well in the fridge and can be reheated.

O.K. here we go... I should have read the reviews first! However, I thought this was a good organic brand why would I need to read them. First off, the cans arrived dented. I can handle that. Then I opened the first can and the peaches were brown? They didn't even look much like peaches. They were is an "organic" apple juice? Why apple juice? Well, it is because these disgusting peaches are grown and China and have no peach taste. So they douse them with apple juice so they taste like apples. On top of that, I wish I never would have tried to eat them. I thought maybe they would taste good. They were disgusting! Tasted like tin from the "BPA" free can, and acidic from the citric acid and like hard apples. I would never order these again. I generally get the organic peaches "Greenwise" from Publix. They are in peach juice and a lovely shade of yellow orange. These peaches looked old and woody and that is why they are not in peach juice. They wouldn't be able to get any juice from these peaches to make them taste good. A loss of almost $30! I could not even donate to food shelf they were so bad. In the garbage they went. I hope this terrible taste goes away in my mouth! YUCK!! Folks read the reviews. They are absolutely true and consistent on this product!

Two important things about these peaches 1) They're delicious 2) according to the email exchange I had with an Edwards and Son's rep (company that makes native forest brand) they ARE BPA free. I think the peaches are delicious, I haven't had any problems with mushiness at all. They come out of the can fresh and delicious and have a relatively long shelf life, although I haven't really tested how good the peaches are after sitting in my cabinet for 3+ months since they're eaten by then. Also haven't had much trouble with dented cans, maybe 1 in 6 will be slightly dented. As far as the BPA issue, the Edwards and Son's rep replied to my email with the list of products that are "specified to be BPA free." The peaches are on the list. The asparagus tips that I used to get from Native Forest were not, I no longer buy them. Hope this clears up the BPA issue (I'll include the relevant part of the email with the list of BPA free products in the comments).

We buy these peaches regularly through the Subscribe and Save program here at Amazon. They are nice to have on the shelf in times of need. A few "negatives" with this product however. First, the cans regularly arrive dented. We're at the point where we almost expect all the cans to be severely dented and we're surprised when there's one or two in the bunch that are perfectly smooth. Second, the quality from can to can varies. We've opened cans where some (but not all) of the peaches had a green tinge to them. And then there are cans that contain peaches that are a little on the hard and crunchy side. So far, these negatives haven't been a dealbreaker for us so we will continue to purchase them. The peaches are organic and they have a BPA-free lining and that's what keeps us coming back. I took one star off the review simply because of the inconsistency from can to can. It's mildly unsettling to open a can each time and not know what the peaches will be like inside.

These peaches are excellent, and extensive surfing and cross-verifying on the internet assures me that Edward & Sons' Native Forest Brand products are packed in BPA free cans. Also, the USDA is pretty careful about who they allow to use their USDA Organic label, so I trust that a whole lot more than reviewers whose main complaint seems to be that these peaches are produced in China. One of these reviewers has posted very similar reviews of Native Forest Mandarin Oranges and Native Forest Pears. He states that the peaches, pears, and mandarine oranges are all either "delicious" or "fairly tasty". But if he is so fearful about China and what he claims (falsely I believe) that these products are packed in BPA lined cans, I can't help but wonder whether he really tasted any of these products.

I enjoy the peaches but the last 3 times 4 out of 6 cans were very badly dented. It was obvious the cans were already dented when packaged for shipping.

I don't mind a ding here and there but everyone of the six cans that I got were all beat up. Looked as though someone played hockey with them before sending them and the plastic packaging was even torn open. Taste wise, not the best either. I knew when I ordered it that it was canned in apple juice but really didn't expect it to taste that apple-y. A lot of fruits are canned in the juices of other fruits but maintain there flavor, this not so much. Very very sweet, tasted like tons of sugar and apple juice. Bought these to eat out of the can, too sweet and apple-y for that so I baked them in muffins..guess what? Everyone thought they were apple cinnamon muffins...lol I would try something else before I spent so much money for 6 half decent (at best) cans from this source. For a comparison on sweetness...I used to love peaches in heavy syrup...these were just straight sugar tasting even for a sugar lover...

These peaches taste like they were directly from the tree. Wonderful product.
