a great item
I installed this GateMate lock on my backyard gate last month — the part behind the pool and storage area. Before, I was always worried about leaving the gate open or flimsy locks breaking under pressure. Last weekend I decided to actually test it: after locking it, I pushed hard on the gate — like I was trying to push it open — and it held rock-steady. Locking mechanism feels solid and smooth: the key turns cleanly, the bolt throws fully, and once locked there’s no wiggle or loose play. One rainy night I came out to check on the pool cover, and even with wet wood and metal the lock worked fine — no sticking, no rust forming (so far). Installation was straightforward — fit perfectly in my 4-ft metal-tube gate, and the Euro-key setup gives good security if you want to keep things safe and controlled. Now I leave the gate locked when I’m out or overnight, and I don’t worry about someone messing with the pool gear or tools behind the fence. If you want a solid, reliable lock for outdoor gates or shed doors — something that stands up to weather and gives real security — this GateMate long-throw keyed lock is a good pick.

Perfect Lock For New Gate
We redid all new fencing at the front side yard and built and installed a new gate. We wanted a lock that is heavy duty and this lock fit the bill. Works great and easy to install.

What's not to like?
I bought this dual sided lockfor my shed door that was thicker than your traditional door - just shy of 2-1/2 inches. I actually used it on the active door for a pair of doors. No complaints. East to install. We'll built, robust lock that works real well in my application. Its been installed for about 6 months and I've had zero issues. I use this lock constantly. I've been so happy with this that I'm going to purchase another for my second shed. My only complaint was the finish of the escutcheon plate being bright chrome but that's just a personal one. I'll spray it to my liking.

Good Quality Lock for Barn Doors
The GateMate Long Throw Gate Lock is well made and very sturdy. However, the suitability of this product is going to depend on your application. I needed a lock for my barn doors and the Gatemate was the best product I could find for my situation. I purchased the version with the greatest key lock depth available, 2-3/4". My barn doors are 3-1/2" thick so I had to modify the interior of both doors to remove 3/4" of wood. I used an oscillating tool and chisels to accomplish this. Gatemate supplies a 19mm spade bit for the key lock holes, but I found using a 3/4" Forstner bit worked best. One issue I had was with the supplied mounting screws. The screws were Tamper-Proof Torx head type but the driver bit supplied was a normal Torx type and would not work. I simply mounted the lock using different screws. I am very happy with the finished installation but it did require some problem solving along the way. I think this lock can work for many uses such as barn doors, shed doors, and gates, but it may require some creativity to get the best result.

Reliable security
This is an excellent lock for wood fence gates - easy to install and reliable. I’ve purchased multiple locks as I’ve moved.

Solid gate lock
Love this lock. Classes up my crappy fence. Only issue was a lack of skill on my part. You have to make sure you drill perfectly straight (parallel) through the gate to fit the lock otherwise it won't work well. Lock is strong, plenty of spare keys, and great that you can lock and unlock from both sides. Inside you don't need the key.

Get it!
I have had everyone that has seen this ask me where I got this cause they havent seen anything like it. It still works perfectly after a year. It was easily able to install and the peace of mind that my gated area is secure. They offer several sizes that can fit any gate. It's so easy to use just like any lock. This it so durable and it smoothly opens every time and hasn't rusted. Every contractor, landscape crew, and builders I've had over to do work has all asked about it wanting one for themselves or wanting to install one for their clients. I can't count the times I've had to send a link to someone for this. As far as I know there is nothing else out there like this or if so not as secure as this one. Take it from me I wouldn't go without it for my piece of mind knowing my back yard is secure.

Slide bar moves in either locked or unlocked position.
It would have been good. If you can reach the slide bar, you can move it, locked or unlocked. It’s not secure at all. Again, if I put the slide in the lock position, take out the key, I can move the bar with absolute no pressure to the unlocked position. It doesn’t actually lock, they just put a key turn in place of a thumb turn. Meaning you can always move the bar, in any direction, key or no key.
