DEWALT Plunge Base For Compact Router, Steel Rods for Smooth Plunge Stroke (DNP612)

Recently acquired the Dewalt compact router and figured I need to get the plunge base. Or it was a good excuse to buy more tools? Anyways, of course it fits the router perfectly. You do need to take of the plastic height adjustment ring as it hits on the one column cover. Not like you need it, it is a plunge base. Although, it would be kind of nice if it did work, you could dial down the height, so you don't have to plunge so far each time, if you are using it for a long time. The build quality is pretty much perfect, what you would expect from a Dewalt tool. The plunge action is nice and smooth, works as it should. You do need to move a big level to release and lock the plunge action. At first I thought this was kind of odd, but it makes sense, very handy feature. When you plunge the router stays in that position, so you are not constantly plunging up and down. You are not always needing to keep the router "down". Now I have to see if my Makita compact plunge base has that, I don't think it does. The level is easy to push with your finger while using the router. One thing, another reviewer said template guide bushing do not fit, well they must have a strange one, as the set I have fit's it fine. While my bushings are not the standard, Porter Cable, they fit every base I have, ones that are made for those kinds of bushings. You can see from my last picture, they fit well. The base does look to be made for some twist lock attachments, but I don't know what and I can't find anything about it in the manual. Any one else know? Very happy with this base, makes the compact router even more useful. Frankly it's kind of a necessary addition if you plan to use the router often. The price was great. Highly recommend!

I bought this plunge base attachment to go with my new small cordless trim router and it’s perfect! It’s well made, fits my Dewalt router perfectly and functions exactly as represented. Now I just need to get the right dust collection attachment.

Works great with my small router. The adjustmend on this plunge base is much better than on my big DeWalt router. The fact that with the samll lever you can easy adjust and keep in place/hight, is awesome. Only disapointement that you have to get the dust collection jig seperatly, which sells for another US$15 - US$ 35 depending on vendor. This is why I can only give a four star rating. Otherwise it would be a five star.

Routers are kinda funny. Not the first tool you buy but a few years down the road you realize you somehow own 3 of them; Palm, 2.25 HP Fixed/Plunge, and the upside down one in your Router Table. Well if you buy this Plunge Base (I think you should) it turns your DeWalt Palm Router into a versatile all around Router (still can't get rid of the Router Table, tho). Unless your needs are super heavy-duty you should be able to get away with your DeWalt Palm Router and this Plunge Base, no need for the 2.25 HP Router and Setup. When I opened the box and put it on my DCW600 and took it thru some testing it felt like I had a brand new tool (and I did). It's great to be able set the depth (super easy and intuitive), plunge the bit to your material, that's your starting point, then just set how deep you want to go from there, and then go. The 3 preset depth stops also make everything super easy. I admit, I experimented a lot to understand everything (lots of test pieces). This is a great addition to my DeWalt Palm Router and I am still discovering other things I can do with it, plus it's not the size of a fire hydrant.
